Description One of the more stupid cryptids and perfect opportunity to draw a pterosaur dragon for me.  (not the last one for sure. xD)

This was made for Trey the Explainer video.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHvBjC…

Yeah, I mostyl find that to be bull-crap, thanks for undestranding. Thing is that those cryptids are actually looked for, jsut nobody happens to find them for some strange reason. As for dismissing them as something else, I think that's a reasonable approach. One shouldn't be afraid of making strange theories but only AFTER the more mundane and simplistic ones have been disproven. Otherwise entire science would become kind of pointless. In fact that was what annoyed me about cryptozoology in the past and that's why people like Trey or Dr Karl Shuker have re-interested me in the subject. There is too litle scientific approach and too much this annoying 'IT"S TRUE. ALL OF IT." attitude.
I do agree, however that some of the western scepticism have become "corrupted". Instead of questioning stuff, it ends up on defensive position, acting more like religions do by defending the dogmas. Nevertheless in case of ropen, or any other I believe we should simply rely on evidence. If blurred photos and inconvincing witness testimonies are all that one can present in defense of his case it should be, by all means dismissed.

Well put I will say, then again with the first part quote, I should've realized that scientists do try to find these supposed creatures but they can't find them even if they did every tactic of searching for evidence.

This would be true in case of some smaller animal, or the one living in remote area with difficult access... But ropen is supposedly seven meter long flying and glowing dragon. With it's strange diet it has to live rather closely to humans. Trying every tactic possible to find an unlikely animal would consume rather large amounts of resuorces, which would be a horrible wastem taking into account that scientific research is most often underfunded. The money could be spend in better ways than chasing for ghosts and verifying every single witness account no matter how ridiculous it seems.

In my opinion, the stupider a monster, the cooler they tend to be. I like unrealistic cryptids more than realistic ones. The same way I prefer weird Lovecraftian abominations over more typical monsters. Bigfoot and Nessie bore me in comparison to the far more interesting monsters like the Palos Verdes Brains or Hopkinsville Goblins.

Nice Ropen, by the way. The teeth are great.

I am mostly happy about the wings here, not so much about the rest. Well.. you have a point, the stupid ones might be unplausible but are more fun.

I have an interest in some sciences, notably psychology, but I have an even deeper interest in stories and fantasies. Myths may not be real (in a physical sense, I must add, since I'm very interested in the spiritual aspect of Jungian psychology), but they are without a doubt great stories. I feel the same way with cryptids and ghosts and aliens. Is it likely that a bunch of guys in Flatwoods encountered a giant robo-dress alien? Not really. But is it fun? Hell yeah!!!

My approach is quite similar. To me these are more like modern myths that's why I put them in same folder as mythologickal creatures.

Actually  this alleget cryptid is a ton of bullshid, sadly xD Trey nails it in the video. The descriptions don't even resemble a pterosaur a bit. XD

I see, well time shall tell if it's real. I am personally rather sceptical, even simply based on that how this creature's description changed over time reflecting some trends in science.
