To Butch, he can't ever shake the feeling that others are only out to use him, and are willing to drop him whenever he isn't useful anymore. His first scar is a reminder of those feelings, and marks the turning point when he takes on a much more harsh and angry demeanor about him. In his mind, if he can drive others away from him, they won't get the chance to use him for their own benefits.
