Description
So last Spring I decided to sign my up for the Nathan Fowkes Schoolism course www.schoolism.com/school.php?i⦠. I'm always looking to improve and I decided this would be a great opportunity to learn from a real Wizard. If you don't know Nathan Fowkes - you should! The guy has contributed to some real classics like The Prince of Egypt, Spirit, Road to El Dorado, How to Train You Dragon, among many others. But realizing my artistic limitations, I really just wanted to take in everything I could. This first assignment called for us to take some types of inspirational artistic reference and recreate it in about 20 minutes or less. So it's important not to spend too much time on one piece and really capture the essence of that source of inspiration. I chose film as my key source. (Also, no color picker allowed!)
Some of these are not so good, but, I think others turned out OK. It's funny, when I turned them in, Nathan thought my style was rather unique and interesting -- but I had completely missed the point of the assignment. Instead of capturing the realism of the photos, I went way-too stylized. This was something I found rather difficult -- to turn off my natural instincts and learn a different way of creating the work. I think most importantly I needed to observe on a completely different level.Ā Although I received poor marks, this was still extremely fun, and now that I've got a better grasp on the "rules", it's all that much easier to break them.
Over the next week or so, I'll try and show my progress with the hope that others might possibly gain something useful.

Can anybody guess the movies?
