Description
So I kind of didn't finish the OCtober challenge in time, due to getting sick (twice ._.) and being generally too busy with other things to commit to daily drawings. Here's something slightly different I made yesterday though!
I got DnD 5E Dungeon Master's Manual, Monster Manual and Player's Handbook for Christmas (with the Reincarnated DM screen, too!) and have been reading through the DM Manual for a few days now in preparation of running my own campaign for a group of friends. Inspired by what I've been reading I decided I'd try and draw some maps.
Bulure is an old fantasy world of mine, created sometime around 2005 for (amusingly enough) our mother language lessons at comprehensive school. While originally the map featured only a tiny portion of the middle part of the continent, I later on drew the whole area with its larger sister continent of Vilama. This, I believe, is the third iteration of Bulure I have created, and I think it's finally the shape I really want it to be. While I do not yet know if this is the map I'm going to use for my campaign, it was a lot of fun to return to this world of mine!
While redesigning the continent, I did add a few locations as well as renamed them. I have no idea what I'd been thinking with their names at the time (most likely I hadn't even considered them too deeply), and got into a fit of giggles when I realised some of their names. Most notably:
Eek -> Eekth
Athing ->Ajang
At this time I don't know much of the locations, and I haven't named the mountain ranges, large forests or the southern desert, but for a little bit of information on the places I do know something about:
Kharazŭm: The only notable city of dwarves in the continent. While there are a few such strongholds in the larger continent of Vilama that regularly keep in touch with one another, the dwarves of Kharazŭm keep to themselves. Due to their distant location in the wild mountain ranges, they do not often interact with other races and, for the most part, seem to be entirely self sufficient. The great hallways of Kharazŭm are very warm due to the close proximity of the largest active volcano on Bulure.
Efriathis: Efriathis is the capital for most of Bulure's elves. They, like the dwarves of Kharazŭm, are somewhat isolated from the rest of Bulure, though more due to their own choosing rather than the location. They occasionally trade with the fishermen of Narangan as well as the people of the town of Manglar. They have rather strange views on spellcasters, and are of the belief that magic is the privilege of a select few. It is not uncommon for mages to be exiled from the island should they not belong to this elite group that is allowed to practice magic.
S'rathium: This large, rocky island northeast of Bulure's shores is the home of the local College of Magi. Wizards from all over come here to practice and study magic in the large tower carved onto the rocky peaks. Some even come from as far as the sister continent of Vilama. The college's high council keeps in tight contact with other such colleges, and travel between the different towers is often easily done via teleportation circles.
Halama: The capital city of Bulure. Despite its somewhat isolated location due to the mountan rainges that separate it from most of the continent, Halama thrives due to the rare minerals and gems mined from the mountains surrounding it. They do most of their trade with Manglar, as well as the farming lands of Steirn and the fishing village of Narangan. Halama was built on the shore of Bulure's largest lake, and many other goods the city needs are importet via the river flowing into the ocean from the lake.
Grynth: This desert fortress is the lone center of civilization in Bulure's southern deserts. The people of Grynth are suspicious of outsiders, and the city itself is ruled by the military rather than an elected council or a monarch. They are often at war with desert raiders and monstrosities that roam the sand dunes.
Media:
