Description
...Life is just a bright and sunny day!I've been really weirdly obsessing over Snow White lately. I'm not entirely sure why. But when I saw that Disney-Club was hosting a princess contest I thought it would be a fun opportunity to flex my painting muscles. I mostly wanted to create a more historically accurate version of her dress and placed her pretty solidly in the late Elizabethan, early baroque era. With a little Rococo flair in the paneled cape. I wanted to decorate the poop out of her dress like one might see a courtier painted from that period, but I had to remind myself that nobody ever dressed that lavishly except for portraits. I wanted to avoid the "I wanna look as lavish as possible so I'm going to drape myself in EVERY PIECE OF FINERY I OWN" free for all, so I decided to dial it back. A ton. I still went more lavish than I think a "casual gown" of that era might have been because she's princess- a Disney princess- and therefore she must glitter with all the radiance of unicorn vomit!!
I had loads of fun pushing my detailing and finishing skills, and learned some new rendering techniques. I had way too much fun rendering the brocade and all dat embroidery! plus is all so sparkly.
But yeah! Contest! this is for Disney-Club 's Fan Fave Princess Contest !
Let's see....the challenge is to make a full-body image of one of the official Disney Princesses as they appeared in their animated film in one of their canonical outfits. Plus bonus points for:
- Locale: Dwarf cottage
- Companion: Little blue bird buddy
- Object: Dunno if this counts ~ there is an apple engraving in the window as well as apples rendered into the gold trim on her skirt
- Talent:.............the ability to summon wild animals as her companion with the power of song? lol honestly her only really talent lies in her ability to optimistically undertake drudgery with a vapid little grin and a charming tune. La, but we've come a long way in female empowerment since 1938......
Side note. I really, really hope the live-action version of this film coming out.......eventually.....give dear Snow a little more oomph. Also, I will be highly disappointed if red-hot iron shoes are not a part of the queen's fate. Just sayin'.
~ I know it's Disney and not likely to happen, but a girl can dream, no?

I love the embellishments you added to Snow's costume, they look hand-embroidered! Just lovely. You've made her look a lot more realistic than her super-cartoon version. Nice.

Thank you! I had a hard time balancing the disney proportions with realistic-ish rendering.

Beautiful piece. I love the dress details like everybody else but I also admire the way you've done her hands very much. They are just incredibly realistic! Good job!

Love how you redesigned the dress, she does look like royalty! And all the details!
Overall this has a vintage or classic look to me, like a Victorian painting, or something older. Very lovely work.

Oh, thank you! I was hoping to get the sort of glowy, soft look from renaissance era masters like Vermeer.

To me she looks like one of Disney's limited edition dolls. It's nice to see somebody finally draw Snow White, last time I checked there were no entries for her. I loved Snow White as a child, ridiculously much, so it's always nice to see her. I think my favourite part of your drawing is her dress because it looks like it would be really nice to touch.

Thank you! Tactile texture rendering is important to me in my illustrations. Snow white was one of my favorites when I was little, too.

Ooo, beautiful work!! All of the extra details on her gown are really well done, I love how it sparkles. But I think my favorite part is how you've done her face and hair; she looks so soft and pretty, and her expression is wonderful! I really enjoy how you've done her hands too, very elegant.
