Naiche stopped in his tracks and began to study the carvings on the altar, he turned to look at Klee for a second, they had this intense spark in their eyes, and when their eyes met, he felt noticed. As if he actually had a good amount of her attention for bringing her closer to the altar. He nodded proudly and pushed his chest forward a little bit to look even bigger.
However, he did not notice that Klee was already deep into their research mode and only really paid attention to the carvings.
Meanwhile, Mei and Chalice were slowly making their way around the walls of the chamber. It was pretty well preserved, though it had a few cracks here and there, but nothing that spoiled the detailed carvings, as they walked around, they started to wonder if they were telling a story of sorts, which started to pique her interest.
“Chalice can you fly a little higher?” She pointed upwards to a bigger carving, that she wanted to get a closer look at. The strange mix nodded and followed right behind her, lighting the way for her.
The carvings showed the three birds, wings spread out, striking a very proud pose. Even though Chalice had seemed a little quiet throughout the journey, it was clear that he also started to have a spark in his eyes, when they both saw the full picture. It was extraordinary to witness. Though on their way back to the others they noticed a few unlit torches next to the altar, unsure if they could be lit, Mei pointed them out to Chalice and then gestured him to ask for permission before touching anything.
The two joined the others, and Chalice gently poked Klee’s shoulder and pointed toward the torches next to them.
“I don’t think a little more light would hurt anyone, go right ahead”
As Chalice went around to light the torches, Mei stayed with them to sneak a peek over Klee’s shoulder to see their notes. The more she tried to understand them, the more she confused herself.
Knocked out by the notes, she fell backward and landed on Naiche’s tail, clinging to it.
“You know it’s my tail right?” Naiche looked at her, slightly annoyed.
“I know, but let me just regain my posture, those notes are scary…”
He sighed, but let her stay, as he enjoyed the attention. Looking up at the ceiling he noticed that the light was able to get through a hole in the top, he almost dozed off for a bit enjoying the view, when he felt a slight tremor.
He stood up immediately and accidentally dropped Mei on the ground. She was about to confront him when yet another tremor occurred, this time it was louder and lasted longer.
“I’m just exhausted, right? There’s no way you felt that too… is there?” She nervously looked at Naiche, who looked at Klee and Chalice.
They all looked around but nothing seemed to have changed except for the fact that both torches were now lit. Slightly concerned they looked at each other again, and suddenly the ground began to shake once more. This time it did not stop and it kept getting louder and louder.
A piercing screech echoed through the ruins, and before anyone could react a giant bird-like Pokémon stood in front of the group.
The creature stood almost two meters tall, with blue, yellow, and orange colored feathers, and a long elegant tail. Long legs that had a dusty gray color, and flames emitting from both its wings and head.
It seemed really pissed off and before anyone dared to move it launched an attack on the group. Naiche pushed Mei out of the way, while Chalice got Klee. The bird left a charred spot on the ground where it had tried to hit the group, and they all sighed with relief that they got out in time.
However, now the creature stood before them once again. Looking fierce and about to launch another attack. Naiche snapped out of it and used smokescreen to confuse their opponent and give them a bit of an advantage.
Mei took the opportunity and flew behind the Pokémon as fast as she could and tackled it right in the back. Surprised it turned its head to look at her, which is when the Little Fiend gave it a good scratch on the legs.
Confused about which opponent to face first, the bird began to fly instead, leaving it right open for Mei to swing her tail using a surprise pound attack. Once the creature regained its balance, it went straight for her once again, but Naiche used smog right in its face, forcing it to land and try to shake it off.
Mei had flown closer to the ground about to pass out from exhaustion, when Naiche grabbed her and took her behind a pillar to hide.
He looked around carefully to spot the other two, who had also found a hiding spot behind a pillar. Now the only thing they could do was hope that the bird had had enough of their shenanigans and would leave them be.
However, it seemed to have pissed it off more than making it leave. With a strange almost hissing noise it charged toward the pillars where Klee and Chalice were hiding, Naiche looked at Mei who was out cold from exhaustion. It was all up to him now.
He mustered some courage, and yelled at the bird, who then changed direction and charged toward him instead. He made sure to place himself right in front of a pillar. Waiting for the right moment, then he smogged the creature, blinding it. However, it was too late for it to stop the charge and it threw itself right into the pillar. Knocking itself out!
