Into the wild, In the first Arc Smudge is a good friend to Rusty, seen chatting on the fence with him. He talks to him and questions if he'll really go out into the woods, when Rusty answers yet Smudge is shocked. The next day, When Rusty decides to join ThunderClan, Smudge is very distraught and upset, begging him not to leave. Smudge spends most of his morning that day with Rusty, later parting with him.
