ANOTHER TRUE STORY. We're helping 2 people from Australia who are chilling out in Canada, and we chat~ They told me this, and I couldn't believe it!

Its funny how its common knowledge amongst Canadians that maple syrup comes from maple trees..... its SO WEIRD to find people who don't know this fact!! (although a lot of the generic maple syrup is 98% sugar and water :/
the REAL stuff comes in cans and bottles and mostly from Quebec and is SO DELICIOUS on fresh snow. C'ESTMAGNIFIIIIQUE~~~.)

I had an identical convo with ~~ Except my outcome was threating nonsensical babbling :U
Seriously AMY! You can excuse Australians, but AMERICANS!? ffff. *adds to list*

THERE ARE SO MANY OUTCOMES FOR MATT. I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE. So I can leave it to you guys and your imaginations...or something

Sorry for my craptastic colouring, but SAI tool is heaven for sketching and iiinking~

art(c)moi
Australia(does he have a name?) Canada(Matthew) and America (Alfred) from Axis Powers Hetalia (c) dude

And I love people that don't know things I consider common knowledge

Unfortunately where I live now...most of these people have NEVER had REAL maple syrup. And if you ask for it at a restaurant they look at you like you're crazy.
My grandfather makes maple syrup. It's usually really dark though since he makes it in his own backyard...

I'm one of those little Canadian kids who wanted to grow a maple tree in their backyard just for syrup. Then, you go to the sugar bush and find out just how much sap you need. Needless to say, I was crushed.

RadioactiveSpider In reply to KittyMira [2011-02-07 04:16:24 +0000 UTC]

Ihop doesn't have maple syrup here. It has plain syrup, butter pecan, strawberry, and er...blueberry I think. We usually have one of those, or boysenberry with our pancakes/waffles. Maybe they'll have it on request?

I eat pancakes and waffles...just with strawberry or boysenberry syrup instead.

HEY PALM TREES ARE AWESOME I was staring at them non stop when I visited California...

dude Canada's the place to be right now if you want to freeze, be buried in snow and hang out with polar bears in ice igloos

YEEEEEEEAH

we start to thaw in April

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadioactiveSpider In reply to KittyMira [2011-02-07 06:01:11 +0000 UTC]

We have two seasons in California. Summer and not-summer. Well, technically, the other half of my state has gets snow in the mountains, but despite it occurring up in the mountains every year, we all still freak out thinking that the world will end because OMG IT SNOWED IN CALIFORNIA.

Haha, my neighbor has three palm trees in their front yard. So to me it's just slightly less interesting than soft tacos.

KittyMira In reply to RadioactiveSpider [2011-02-07 13:55:35 +0000 UTC]

mmmmmmmmm tacos...... guacamole *A*

When I visited, I was soooo worried I wasn't going to be able to stand the heat, but it actually wasn't that bad! Of course when I was there at the end of July, apparently it wasn't as warm as it normally should be or something, so we assumed I brought the cold with me dohohohoho

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadioactiveSpider In reply to KittyMira [2011-02-07 17:01:41 +0000 UTC]

Usually mid-August/early September is the hottest it gets around here, but the heat lingers throughout most of the year. Where I live, temperature varies from about 75-105°F in summer(about 23-40°C) or 55-90°F (12-32°C) in winter. Hope that gives you an idea of what it would be normally be like.

I'm scared of Canada's cold. I'd probably freeze to death.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KittyMira In reply to RadioactiveSpider [2011-02-07 19:18:16 +0000 UTC]

ahaaaa that makes a lot more sense! I guess humidity is a factor too though, huh?
considering its still North America.. I think I would've properly freaked out if I was going to Central/South America

bah Canada isn't that bad, if you're prepared for it. I can only vouch for eastern/atlantic provinces temperatures because they are different from say.. the Prairies in the West. The summer in eastern canada is usually around 15°C to 35°C but the humidity is just terrible. The winter in Atlantic Canada is more SNOW than cold. While western canada gets cold straight from the arctic (so... around -20°C (-4°F) to -50°C (-58°F) its sometimes a dry cold. In the east however, FUCKING HUMIDITY MAKES THE COLD GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR BONES no matter how bundled up you are. So if its -20°C with humidity and wind, it could feel like -35°C easily.... but its not like that every day lol you just curse the entity of winter when it is.

but like I said, if you come prepared, the winter is super fun and pretty and quiet and serene, etcetc
One of my goals in life is to go to Northern Manitoba to see the Northern Lights. I'LL BRING YOU WITH ME

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadioactiveSpider In reply to KittyMira [2011-02-07 21:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's pretty dry in my area. A good chunk of California is actually desert, though certainly not nearly as much as Arizona or Nevada. They have way more desert, but we have the hottest one (Death Valley with record of 134°F (56.7°C)), so I guess its even?

Most of the state is more temperate/mild though. I just happen to live in a hotter part. Then again, maybe it's because of all the people. LA has way, way, way too many people. Bleh.

Snow and the cold have always been strange, alien things to me. The last time I saw actual snow was in New York, and being in a busy city helped me adjust better. I mean, I see it on TV all the time during the winter but that isn't the same. I didn't experience it growing up.

Woot northern lights! I always wanted to go see them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KittyMira In reply to RadioactiveSpider [2011-02-07 21:35:55 +0000 UTC]

maaaaan
one thing about Southern California that was so strange to me is the lack of seasons. I think I would go mad in a place that doesn't have all 4 seasons

Yeeeah big cities are usually warmer than other places because of gas emissions/buildings/people I suppose

Snow is awesome ;u;

yeeeeah well east coast people are generally awesome to begin with B)

hahaha seriously though I don't expect people in SOUTHWEST united states to know much about stuff up north anyway
To me, growing up, California was some far away planet with strange creatures called "Actors" who ate this weird food called 'Churros', I never learned anything relating to California (sans the cartoons and stuff) BUT I did know more about New York, Maine, Boston, Florida etcetc because I was on the East coast (I also thought Alaska was a part of Canada... I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THE DAY I FOUND OUT)

Kosa-Chan In reply to KittyMira [2011-01-31 02:17:14 +0000 UTC]

Dat we are

Heh, neither do I. I was just a bit surprised when my cousin from Texas came up and was all like "OMG, It comes from trees?!?" But that description of California is the best thing... EVER. I also knew more of the Northern states and the east coast... and for some odd reason I knew more about Canada than the USA. (Heh, I feel bad for you! *Has a sad enough life that she knew Alaska was the US since she was four OTZ*)
