Before Mario, before Luigi and their friends protected the Mushroom People, three other people were the heroes.

MARIO MIYAMOTO SR./JUMPMAN
Father of Mario and Luigi, he's of American-Asian descent. Equipped with a power suit that allows him great strenght and powerful jumps, as well as a powerful hammer, he fiercely defended the people against teh Koopas. After the defeat of the previous Koopa King, he settled down with his love Paulina and they had their twin sons, but when Bowser appeared as the new king with the revived Koopa empire, they killed Jumpman, but not before he had brought his sons to safety.

STANFORD GADD/STANLEY THE BUGMAN
The crazy yet lovable heroic Stanley the Bugman thanks his name to the fact he uses chemicals to fight his foes as well as his suit make him look like an exterminator. He died bravely sacrificing himself to tackle himself and the previous Koopa King (Bowser's dad) into a magma pit, killing both.

DONKEY KONG SR./CRANKY KONG
The apes brought along from the human world gained human-like intelligence in the magical atmosphere of Terra Fungi, and soon started their own society and recieved equal rights to humans. One of them, Donkey Kong joined Jumpman and Stanley in their fight against the Koopa's, but after Stanley's sacrifice he moved to Kong Island to settle down. He had a son, Donkey Kong Jr.
