Description We were just two lost crows,
Sharing the same space,
And whispering poetry about nothing and everything,
Soft feathers passed back and forth in the night.

-

Daddy, I’m scared.

Shh.

There are feathers on my pillow.

Shh.
They’re only from your wings.

They’re black.

I know.

-

I carry these wings,
They do not carry me.

You carry me.
But I cannot carry you.

Fly gently, kind one.
Carry me gently.

I promise to treat you gently in return.

-

Your thoughts fight each other above your head,
Battling like shadows given weight.
Your shadows given weight.

Shh, lonely one.
I understand.

Your feathers were stained black with your heart,
Just like mine were.
I understand.
I have survived too.

You are not alone.
Don’t give up.

Your answer is silence.
I think that means
no.

-

One day I’ll weave these days into my dreams,
And in them I will fly
With you at my side
And there will be more crows
Than just the two of us,
Or maybe no crows at all.
Maybe it will be just you and me,
As grounded as we have ever wished to be,
Standing strong and solid like the trees we cling to,
Or their seeds that we swallow,
Hoping that a sapling will begin to grow within us,
That it will teach us how to be strong,
That we will grow with it.

All we have ever wanted is to be a part of the grove,
Two among many,
Shaded by our brethren,
Cherished by the environment around us.
What a thing that would be.
To be more that the crows hiding in the foliage.

-

Oh my kind one,
You were born too young.
You were never ready for this world.

No wonder the vultures and kestrels
Took you by surprise.
No wonder they hurt you.

But I am here now,
My wings do not carry me,
But they can cherish you.

Oh my gentle one,
Spread your wings.
The robins will teach you their songs,
And the sparrows will teach you their dances.

You are not alone,
Don’t give up on the skies yet.
You are not alone,
Do not give up on me.

The answer is silence.
I’ll take it as a maybe.

-

I want to show you a world
That you have stopped seeing.
I want to show you wonder.
I want to show you home.

I don’t need more.
I don’t need wings that hang like laundry at my sides.
I don’t need feathers that could disappear in the night.
I need you.

I need you.

-

Stay with me, quiet one.
We’ll whisper poetry
And we’ll learn.
My god will we learn.
We will learn to recognise the guns,
And the faces that hold them.
We will learn to count the number of dangers
That go into the forest
And we will stay away until we count each one leave.
We will learn.
We will learn to survive together
With the least pain possible.
We need each other to remember to breathe,
Or maybe that is just me,
But we are alive.

Stay with me.

-

We were just two lost crows,
Sharing the same space
And hopes.

We’re going to be okay.

The answer is silence

I like the concept of this! The title holds a subtle meaning that attempted murder is the two crows are waiting to find others to form a group in which this case is murder. That's great, I love it! Good job writing this!
