My theory is that all of Equestria is built on the ruins of an ancient human civilization, and what technology they do have is either copied or taken directly from the remains. This explains why their tools are clearly made for things that have hands and many of their structures and furniture seems to be designed for bipeds.

It doesn't explain how they have much less advanced technology than we do.

Complex electronics are really rare in Equestria!

But in case of a global nuclear conflict, EMPs would be used to destroy most electronics.

Only electronical devices which were kept in special places, like in bunkers, would still work.

Ponykind seems to be able to reverse engineer human technology,Β

but not to develope it further, because they have still the same technology as 1000

years ago.

"It doesn't explain how they have much less advanced technology than we do."

Sure it does. Without the body of scientificΒ understanding that humanity slowly built up over that time, but surrounded by the products of that knowledge, most technology would fall apart or be discarded. Since most ponies don't seem scientifically inclined, combined with the advantage/crutch of having magic to take care of many problems, there would be a desperate shortage of ponies that could actually understand the principles behind most machines, much less make more of them. So electronics would be extremely rare because so few ponies can build and maintain them, but there would still be some available.

This, in turn, inhibits the ponies' ability to develop new technology. Besides how rare it is to actually understand the science, the most useful achievements inΒ industry are learning how to copy and use devices from a different civilization which is long dead. The benefits of replicating humanity's architectural achievements are so obvious and rewarding that nopony notices that the doors have freaking knobs at human-waist level and thinks to design a new mechanism for opening doors appropriate for a quadruped. They probably wouldn't know where to start.

It probably doesn't help that their professions and talents are determined during childhood and stamped onto their butts, either.

Sooooo...Β  we both agree that the civilization of equestria has mostly reverse engineered human technology (of the few human things that they understood) and that they use many human designs.

But how come that humanity isn't there?
My theory about that is that humans developed powerful space ships, capable of traveling between solar systems to colonize other planets.

The first planet to be colonized outside of earth's solar system was in the Alpha Centauri system and called Reach as it was the first extrasolar planet to be in reach of humanity.

Humans on Reach managed to develope a machine that is capable of creating life forms, even intelligent ones.
At some point, humans who like a certain TV show used it to create intelligent, colored, speaking earth ponies and pegasi, even unicorns but they weren't able to use magic.
After making a few of them, more and more were created because owners of those machines became crazy and desired more of these creatures.

When some ponies realized what purpose their existence has and they're slaves(unfortunately sometimes even sex slaves if their owner was a clopper)
they didn't want to accept it and escaped from their owners.

They lived in the wild and hidden from the humans.

But Humanity didn't only meet non-intelligent life, but also intelligent species.
Those species saw humans as heresy to their gods and began a war,
in which humanity managed to eradicate the alien attackers,
by leading them to reach, making them think that it is their home planet to lead the aliens' entire fleet into a trap.
The humans used a weapon that destroys very complex neural pathways like both aliens and humans use it.
After the weapon was fired, all aliens and humans in the system were dead.
The loss of their fleet made the aliens defenseless prey to the humans.
All aliens' ouposts and colonies were found and captured.

The alien ships crashed on Reach and destroyed most human and alien technology on the planet.
The weapon has a side effekt that causes high radiation levels which made the planet useless for humanity for about 100.000 Reach years.

The high radiation causes unicorns to mutate, making them able to use the radiations' energy to manipulate gravity, to create small slipspace portals and to do many more things.
Without human presence and due to the facts that pony neural pathways are not complex enough to be affected by the bomb and that they are highly resistent against radiation, ponykind has to share a planet with others of the humans' creations, such as griffons and minotaurs.

That's pretty cool, although you seem to be quoting a sci-fi backstory I'm not familiar with.

As a Warhammer 40K fan, I'd have to go with their catch-all excuse for the obliteration of a human population: the Warp did it.

I quoted Halo if you want to know.

But that Warp thing in Warhammer 40k could explain why unicorns and alicorns can use "magic", if all unicorns and alicorns would be Psykers.

Wait until Lyra finds out that this Human skeleton is only a baby.

Β

The adults are hundreds of feet tall, have long sharp teeth and claws and eat anything else that lives. But, of course, they died out at the end of the last ice age from unknown causes.

There is no true difference.Β

Nomenclature of species is an entirely arbitrary concept created by humans. If the scientific community wanted to label black people "Homo sapiens nigra" they could.

So what does that make ponies? 'Cuz we can figure out their problems and solutions to them (sometimes better than the solutions they actually end up using) faster than they can.

Just saying.
