Try to play with layers setted on 'Overlay options', play with many many brushes settled on overlay as well.
Give some nice blurry effect to the picture and suggest you at the end of finishing your work edit your pictures in a programm named 'Photoscape'. This program is full amazing filters as well. Don't be scared, the program is for free * Luckily *
