Have you ever wondered how falling stars are born?
Well, now you know.
I've tried to make something more dynamic, less static. A girl walking through the clouds and cutting off stars on her way, with a whole damn lot of wind.
I've also tried to work with colours I rarely use, blues. And tried to darken my shades, but it's hard - I'm starting to believe it's my watercolour that isn't pigmented enough. I'll buy a few new colours and see whether it's a problem with me or my paint.
Anyway, I must say I like this one enormously for some reason. She seems so happy. I've wanted to draw this picture for a long while, and it came out differently from what I expected, but in a good way for once.
The body is extremely elongated and exagerratedly slim on purpose. I like drawing those bodies.
The pose does look quite stiif and unnatural... but hey, so would you if you were walking on those things.
I hope you will like it.
[Made with Staedtler pigment liners, watercolours, liquid frisket, Tria markers, colour pencils, white paint.]

It's pretty. I think it does look a little different than what you normally do too. Nice work.

This is very beautiful. I love the way you potrayed her hair. Almost as if it was cut out from the sky, it makes for a really nice contrast.

youpiii ! en effet ça change ! ^___^

I really like this, traditional art always seems to draw me in more- there are just so many more colours tones and depths that ou get from paints than from a computer. I love this peice, go watercolours!

I think it's wonderful! It's great to see you trying something new and this is a fun idea. She really does look happy, the details are still fantastic and the colors are quite a lovely change from your usual palette.

This definitely seem different from most of your other works. As for her pose/stance being unnatural, well it is actually quite natural under the circumstances (I guess you already said that). The pose shows a natural/appropriate uneasiness while trying to concentrate on both standing up and cutting down the stars.

This is really great! I love her outfit and the stilts are really cute! She looks like she's having a hard time cutting those stars down! I love how the clouds are held up too, very cute!

Oh, wow. Even before I read the description, I was like "Damn, someone really used the advice! Look at all that great motion! And blue!"
I do agree though, that the pose is stiff and awkward...but in a natural way. It really looks like she's trying to balance on those stilts while trying to cut a star out of the sky.
The values and blues are all so beautiful. I really love this piece. And (well, to me) it's obvious that you go for a stylized form of anatomy, not that you just don't know how it's supposed to look. Fantastic job. My new favorite piece of yours.

I'm glad you think that the advice was put into good use. It definitely helped, I'm really happy to have managed to do something different for once and I feel like I somewhat improved.

Ooh very nice, it has a unique style and idea and the texture is wonderful. May I ask what a liquid frisket is?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KmyeChan In reply to Pyridoxine [2007-05-09 18:39:25 +0000 UTC]
Liquid frisket is masking fluid. It's a sticky, stinking liquid that you apply on the areas you want to keep white, and once it's dried, you can paint over it, the areas remain white. Once you're finished you can rub it off.

oooh thank you, that was helpful. I'm getting some copics soon so something like this would also be beneficial since I am not accustomed to working with a lot of media on paper.
