Creature Bio: Identity Sponge
Identity Sponges are an illusive species of cyborg that steal the appearances and identities of their victims. Composed of organic skin plates and a mechanical interior, these beings certainly originate from beyond the solar system.
In their base state, Identity Sponges are plain humanoids devoid of many human characteristics such as faces, orifices, or body hair. Their skin plates are made of a somewhat gelatinous biological material, and they lock together to form their humanoid shape. Identity Sponges’ insides are composed of animatronic mechanisms that allow them to move as a human would, and in some cases, in ways a human never could. None have ever seen the insides of a living Identity Sponge: this knowledge has been gained from post mortems of deceased Identity Sponges.
As their name suggests, Identity Sponges can absorb the life essence and memories of their prey and assume their identity. Upon contact with an Identity Sponge, a victim is transformed into articles of clothing - often the clothes they are wearing, if they are wearing clothes at all. The Identity Sponge’s skin plates then shapeshift into an exact duplicate of the victim and wear them - in their new form as clothing - on their body.
Sometimes, Identity Sponges will alter their stolen appearance to match their own inner identity. This can include gender-bending and the addition of inhuman body features such as tentacles, antennae, taur-like lower bodies, and wings. In these cases, they exhibit the ability to warp reality around them: they can live out the victim’s life with their altered characteristics without anyone suspecting anything is amiss.
Their victims, as clothing, remain fully conscious and aware of everything around them, but cannot speak or otherwise communicate.
