Growing up Phoenix was truly Rainbow's clone, and to this she was somewhat spoiled by Rainbow and encouraged to try more and more daring flying moves from a young age. Everything was great until he got old enough that Rainbow thought he should start taking his career more seriously and tried to give him a more structured training regime, which he did not respond to it at all. He lost all interest in training with his mother. Also he realized that his other mother Applejack had, in his eyes, a better relationship with his cousins. He felt jealous of his family and friends, and became a loner unmotivated to do anything. All of this he hides under his confident facade.
