Description
Pixel art drawn by the talented ThePsychoDino! The Year is 1997, the universe is at the brink of complete annihilation as the threat of Andross escalates to a full on invasion through the Lylat system. A brave team of space pilots stands up to the tyrant's armies and eventually saves the day. This echoed through tvs across the globe every friday, the adventures of Fox McCloud aired for a healthy 8 seasons before it's conclusion. Ground breaking for it's use of real space travel and filming on real planets far away from home, there was little fiction in this science! Well, except the giant monkey head I guess.
Star Fox was a collaborative effort between the film production company Earthwalker and I.R.I.S. Space port, simultaneously creating a genuine spectacle on the television while advertising for Earth's space pilot program. Iris is considered quarantined to the rest of the world for a lot of reasons, the real reason being it's technology is simply "too good" for Pangea's market, where products breaking or going obsolete is part of it's program. A story for another day.
I.R.I.S. is the real life Corneria, a gigantic space exploration academy located far off from Pangea. Built on top of a giant meteor crash site, it's precious metals advanced their technology by centuries at record speed and space travel was unlocked a lot sooner than it would otherwise. Iris' funding comes from letting hollywood film here, as well as the academy exporting life saving medicine and prosthetic limbs (and lab grown organs, fun!). Iris is simply too huge to name everything that goes on over there, so I'll focus on the more fun parts like space flight!
Space flight at Iris is currently split into three categories: Diplomatic escort, military precautions and space exploration. The protagonists fit into the last category! Sierra Foxtrot 1277, shortened to SF77, is currently one of two exploration teams active at the academy, consisting of four operatives and one overseeing officer:
Odessa Orson:
Top dog of Iris, the boss of all bosses, the fleet admiral herself. An absolute powerhouse of inspiring muscle and determination, previously a ship mechanic who rose the ranks in attempts to "fixing" every problem Iris has from the inside out. People at least think she is nicer than the last guy. "Oda" personally monitors SF77's efforts and new findings, and while she only understands maybe half of all the numbers and genus names and what have you, she is still an enthusiastic listener who sees any progress as a monumental victory. She is not physically present on SF77's ship, but she is always a video projection call away.
Elijah Orson:
Odessa's son, Ace Pilot and self proclaimed fossils expert of the group. Easily what you would consider the charisma of the group despite always getting them into trouble more often than out. But he is a genuinely caring and integral part of the team, he is the glue on top of super glue that binds this family together. He is proud of himself and equally proud of his teammates. Besides working as a space explorer he indulges in a hobby of attending every single eating contest they come across, with an overwhelming win to lose ratio. How he keeps in shape so well is a complete mystery.
Marcus Sinclair:
The team's darling angel and terrain expert, Marcus is a skilled cartographer and has a knack for caring for plant life on board as well as on-site. He's a gentle giant who keeps quiet most of the time, scared of bugs and loves compliments and validation. There's many situations where he'll need to be handheld through some situations, but it's never been treated as an obstacle or a chore. Marcus is a sweet guy, he joined Iris after obsessively watching Star Fox as a kid and is the team's self proclaimed expert and number 1 fan.
Wanda O'Donnell:
Retired star struck actor, initially playing the role of Wolf in Star Fox, she developed a taste for actual space flight that she thought was worth pursuing. Wanda is 20 years older than the rest of the group and very much inherits a bit of a aunt/dad energy dealing with them. She is a bit strict and is generally the first one to tell the others to stop goofing off... but it takes roughly 3 minutes before she joins in on goofing off with them, they are infectious. She is loud, she is engaging and always takes the initiative. Through and through she is SF77's captain and she will show you her claws if you lay a finger on any of her pals.
Bea Tebbat:
Also known as Batch, this bat is the team's dedicated shipwright, mechanic and walking cyborg. She lives for the theatrics and love making a spectacle be it through her weird flexing or an explosion happening in the garage, Batch gives everything her 110% be it impressing her new family or cheering them on. Generally if Eli gets them into trouble, Batch has a good chance of either getting them out of it, or into way more trouble. Batch is SUPER
I got a final icon from Dino! So I thought I'd re-upload them and fill out some of my current worldbuilding for my star fox crew! I am only mentioning like half of all there i, but I'd be here for a long time if I wrote down everything x3
Thanks for reading! I love writing this side of the world so much!
