Starfury slept in the old Kaleo’s creaking shack of a home. It was suspended high in a tree with gnarled roots growing from the dense and tangled undergrowth. The blankets he had given her were worn but very warm, woven from the fleece of the Nightmare Llamaz, which he kept as a herd for their fleece and strange, tart, bittersweet milk. She’d spent the day trying to convince him to remove the bell from her out of friendship to her father, but no matter how much he’d warmed to her, he’d refused on that point stubbornly. Deep in his voice was grief over the tree she had burned, and he seemed to feel it was a just punishment, no matter whose daughter she may be. However, he took her in for the night as a mark of his friendship to her father long ago, as long as she kept moving in the morning. He wasn’t the kind who enjoyed company for very long.
