I used a picture of a toy statue on Conan the barbarian for this project.

first, I created an outline of the picture. Next, I have crosshatched to give more definition.

I just updated this pic.. now with four pictures showing some of the steps I take when working on a project. Below is the 3rd and 4th steps.

The third thing I did is color the picture.

fourth, I add color shading and some highlights as well.

Inking is done when an artist goes over the lines they used to produce a rough sketch with thick, dark ink to make it more distinct. Once you've inked a drawing and used techniques like hatching and shading to add dimension, it will practically jump off the page with its bold expressiveness.
