Description
This is page 2/2, click here for page one .Inspired by an anonymous prompt in Akki no Ai's "What if" meme : "What if Naruto went to Baki for his fuuton jutsu training, instead of Asuma (and got to see Gaara)?" Except, I thought Gaara himself would have been Naruto's first choice for someone to ask in Suna, since as far as I know Gaara's element is wind, too (or Temari, whose element definitely is wind). But Baki happened to be there (and Gaara's a bit of a busy guy), so Naruto asked him, because I like Baki.
I altered a little the timeline of the manga chapters during which this is supposed to take place, adding a few extra days because it takes a while to get to Suna.
And still deviating from the prompt, Naruto did go ask Asuma, he just happened to send one extra shadow clone on its way before that, and forgot about it until it dissolved and flooded him with memories of hanging out with and hugging Gaara.
Sorry about your retinas, but this was so much fun to colour I got carried away in a few places with the brightness.
Pens (brush and not) and PaintShopPro7, the clouds are made with my own custom brushes. (And speaking of the clouds, I continue to draw lots of clouds in the sky above Sunagakure because Kishimoto does. I guess it's a less dry spot in the desert.)

Only you, Kosmo, know how to make a GaaNaru comic that is TOO CUTE TO BE SEEN.
Also, Baki is a pimp. To me, he's the only adult figure the three siblings had in their life (...I really don't count their dad. He wasn't a bad guy, I just don't think he was suited to be a father).

Aww, thank you. But I'm sure there are other artists like that, too...
Well, there's their mother whom even Temari and Kankuro probably hardly remember, and Yashamaru who hasn't been a good memory in a long time although I'm sure that's changed a little after the most recent events, so yeah, I think Baki's the closest they have to a parent who's actually been there to raise them. However reluctant he may have been at first to work with them.
I especially like his relationship with Gaara in all its Suna-understatedness, and it's one of the reasons I find the Kazekage's Return scene so adorable. If I didn't know better I could have been fooled into thinking they are father and son.
...Not sure how that makes him a pimp, though.

Oh! Haha, it's not implied as actual 'pimp' terminology. Here (in parts of Vegas, at least... I can't really speak for everyone in the US) we use it as the term 'too cool to be true' or 'The Man'. I'm not saying Baki actually pimps out whores, haha XD I'm saying that he's such a cool guy.
But, in the sense I meant, it's true! He's so close to them, I'm sure people do pass it off too easy. You could also trick me into thinking that he's their actual father (biological or adoptive).
And no, you're THE only artist that can instantaneously bring me back (or keep me) loving the pairing. I'm not saying there aren't good artists out there, because there are! And I see them all the time on the livejournal, or the fan group on DA. But you alone keep me in the zone, the GaaNaru zone XD

Okay, I suspected as much. It's just that I don't think there's anything admirable about being an actual pimp so I don't use the term as a compliment, jokingly or otherwise. I find it pretty disturbing how popularly glorified an occupation consisting of exploiting other people is.
Well, I'm flattered. :) It's a good zone to be in.

Well, considering how much the English language has been butchered and transformed, I'm not really surprised, haha. Slang, American or otherwise, can also turn really innocent words into the nastiest things.

You're bringing me so much happiness with this. What's better than my favorite sappy couple than my favorite sappy couple in bright colors and cute situations?
I really love the parting ways... Both of them fidgeting no knowing what to do with their hands since they're too shy to put them around each other ('till the leap'o'faith by Naruto)!
And I love that the actual training took one small case, all the rest being Frolicking With Gaara.
Thank you so much for this!

I do love drawing our favorite sappy couple in bright colours and cute situations. :)
The sketch skript of the comic had a narrator box in the last panel of Page1 saying "five minutes later". Yeah... Naruto didn't learn anything Asuma hadn't already told him, but yay, Gaara!
I love the word "frolic", by the way.
And thank you for the comment.
I see you changed accounts again?

Thank you. I'm happy you found it believable and enjoyed the story.
However, "spazz"? I do not think it means what you think it means, and I'd advise against using it so carelessly.

Pardon the offense. I tend to use it as an abbreviation for someone who is spastic or sperodic (sp?) in the way they behave. But your point is taken, and I don't typically use it except in reference to myself, as well as fictional characters. (rather like the word retarded, I don't use it where it doesn't fit)
Sorry again for offending you.

kosmonauttihai In reply to NobleSir [2011-09-14 08:34:27 +0000 UTC]
But Naruto isn't spastic (as in he doesn't have a disability such as cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis that can cause things like muscle spasms... but if you yourself have such condition, I'm sure you know more about it than I do and don't need me explaining this), at least as far as I know. Sporadic, I guess, but those aren't synonyms.

I'm not going to get into a debate over this. I'm sorry I offended you, but, since he is technically a work of fiction, and therefore unable to feel my influence, I am not going to apologize to Naruto for calling him a spaz. And both in personality and physically, I am a spaz, I get frequent spasms of most muscles in my lower leg, and ankles. Most if it is injury caused, but, I do have muscular spasms, and am legally a "spaz". It doesn't bother me as a word, it depends on the inflection of the person's voice when they use it on whether it is offensive or not.

"I am not going to apologize to Naruto for calling him a spaz."
Well, that's fine with me seeing as I never asked you to, what with him being indeed a work of fiction.
I'm also not asking you to apologize to me for anything, nor am I offended. Just thought it might come in handy for you to know that perspective on the word. And now you do.
