Description
HEY PAISANOSSo uhh yeah remember how I teased this project in a description of an OLD submission back in 2015?? Its finally here!
You see, the Mario series is such a huge part of my life... and 2019 actually marks 10 Years since I have been in the fandom, the Mario fandom was one of the first I have ever been a part of online! c: And honestly, it plays a huge part of who I am today art-wise, mainly because of the awesome peeps that I met through it!
In Summer of 2009 I was 11 years or old almost 12...My family got our first gaming systems: the Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo 64. They were hand-me downs from a friend that wanted my siblings and I to have them. It was so cool!! We had never had games like that before. Growing up, I had those Atari, Pac-Man, Spider-Man, etc. "Plug N' Play" games. Remember those? Anyway, that was definitely a summer to remember! We played a lot of Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, and Mario Kart 64 as those were the few games that our friend had also handed down to us. Then we got Mario Party 7 as well! I drew my first Mario bros fanart pics not long after that and posting them to my then 3-4 month old dA account. I posted Bowser arts cause he was growing to be a huge fav of mine along with Luigi! <3
And then, I get a comment or two from a user, who happens to be biggest Bowser fangirl I know! (Or should i say...a Bowser Queen! I am sure you're likely reading this now, so you know who you are! x3) And she was always so nice and supportive to me regarding my Bowser drawings and that made me feel really special and meant a lot to me as a young artist!
I must say the timing of me finally drawing this picture happening to be in the Summer of 2019 is quite the fun way of marking 10 years since I joined the mario community offically!
I guess it took so long to get around to because I wanted to come up with a good concept, so its something that got pushed to the side for a while until May/June 2019 when I actually started sketching the individual characters and concepts for it, and soon it all came together June 29th 2019! I took a lot of inspiration from that one classic SMB 3 artwork, as I always loved that one! www.mariowiki.com/images/b/b8/β¦ I wanted to include a good amount of characters, but didnt want to overcrowd it either! ;v; Definitely needed the koopalings there for sure! When we got our first Nintendo Wii for Christmas in 2009, we also got New Super Mario Bros. Wii and I loved the Koopalings after playing, I drew them SO much LOL! I still love those guys, Ludwig is the best boi!
I even found a way to print this drawing poster size too, and I really wanted this one on my wall since its a special one to me, feels surreal to actually have a piece of mine printed as a poster! Something I always wished for when I was little, I used to resort to making my own with posterboards or cardboard with markers!
But YEEEAA I'm glad to finally be able to share this drawing with you all... and its no coincidence I uploaded this on 8-4...which is Bowser Day!
Hope you will enjoy!
Β EDIT: 8-19-19
Holy christmas!!! This ended up being suggested for a Daily Deviation!!!
Thank you so so much to Thiefoworld for suggesting this piece! I cant express how much this means to me!

Man, this is just absolutely beautiful and eye catching for a Don Bluth-esque piece of art that you made (and many others I've gazed upon in your galleries). One that is for Super Mario Bros no less! I mean, your skills of making these kind of art makes them look like they were MADE by Don Bluth himself so that's what I call very impressive on a great scale.
Mario and Luigi's designs here are spot on and look accurate to their characteristics from their games but you managed to keep them Don Bluth-esque enough to make them look really unique. Heck, even Mario and Luigi's designs here are different and don't look as similar to each other as their game counterparts do. Also, I can't help but hear these versions of Mario and Luigi sounding just like their old western cartoon versions by the same voice actors no less.
Bowser's design here, out of all the other pieces of art of Bowser I've seen in your galleries, is arguably the best and most accurate version because Bowser can sometimes be just about as goofy (and lovable, sometimes) as he is intimidating in the games so this depiction manages to make him both look silly AND scary (well, a bit more leaning to silly than scary) in the style of Don Bluth.Β
Princess Peach's design is lovely and it fits her. It suits her well and she doesn't look as sexy/seductive and curvy as many other attractive Don Bluth female characters (such as Daphne from Dragon's Lair) since Peach from the game is very modest in her design. Yet, you still give enough feminine traits (I like the make up you've given her) to make her look like a pretty princess. And I like how you made her a redhead rather than blonde because that's what her cartoon version was as well so quite a great call back there.
Yoshi's design is also very fitting and eye catching that fits him being a lovable glutton that he is in the games. Heck, his design even looks a bit similar to that of Rex from We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (What's ironic is that Don Bluth had nothing to do with that movie, it's just that Steven Spielberg used to work with Bluth so the designs are also Don Bluth-esque too)
Junior and the Koopalings (also seen here in another part of your gallery) are also very great since they each have their own minor traits, colors, and body shapes to further differentiate them a bit more than their game counterparts. I like the baseball cap you gave Junior since that's definitely a fitting trait for a kid from the 80s/90s trying to look and act cool.
And there's Toad. He kinda looks like a bit like Tweedledee and Tweedledum from Disney's Alice in Wonderland.
Heck, even the enemies (Goomba, Koopa, Hammer Bro, Bloop, and Lakitu) are fitting! I'm curious what Boo, Chain Chomp, and Shy Guy would look like....
Lastly. I know that's up to you to decide but what do you think other Mario characters like Donkey Kong, Princess Daisy, and Princess Rosalina (and her lumas) would look like in your Don Bluth-esque depiction? Again, that's your decision Would be cool if you made a Super Mario Galaxy cover art in the style of Don Bluth but you decide on that.
Either way, this is one of the best Don Bluth style artwork on the internet and so I congratulate you with such gifted talent to make such great art by mixing two great things (Don Bluth and Mario) into one piece of fine art.
Good luck on using your talents and skills of making more great Don Bluth inspired art.
