Huge file is HUGE just as a warning.

So, what is this you ask? Well…idk, I just felt like comparing the FiM Alicorns with my DUSK Alicorns. Yes, I should’ve been writing more DUSK instead, oh well

But I also wanted to show that I actually put thought into Lunaria and Tia/SF’s designs too, while paying attention to the FiM designs; that I wasn’t just doing idiotic recolors. I paid attention to their color schemes and color patterns; even to their different face shapes and eye styles. I over think things a lot And this was one of those times. I just also have this feeling like I always need to justify myself I guess…anyways, moving on!

I only did the art for half of this; I was lucky enough to find several wonderful vectors by *MisterLolrus , as well as the NMM from =MoongazePonies to use, so I thank those two greatly! The rest though, I did do myself. The left side are Celes/Tia/Solar Flare, while the right is Luna/ria/Nightmare Moon. Each section I tried to give a clear symbol reference, and a color palette; again so you could better see the color trends and compare the values of the sun sister to the moon sister.

So a run down of categories and stuff:

Dual Powered
To me this is a forced adult stage that happened when the one sister had to take over both the sun and moon magics. Celestia became lighter, Lunaria became darker. They both kept their original mane color in a stripe (C pink, L blue), but between the two of them they share a blue stripe showing their blood bond; the other two stripes are to balance between the day and night. I’d also like to note that while C’s mane fades to a lighter color, L’s fades to a darker. Their symbols changed color opposite to their body coloring (C darker, L lighter), and for their armor I went for the silver being the opposite of gold since they are opposites to begin with.

Young/Depowered
I like to think this is how they were born; Tia being pink, Luna being blue. But I was also aware that one of the large fandom complains with S2 was Luna’s change in appearance, so thus why I also labeled this as a “depowered” form, since they looked like this right after the Elements of Harmony stripped the darkness from them, so they were in effect magicless. Tia’s symbol is lighter than Celestia’s, while Luna’s is darker than Lunaria’s. L wears black and blue armor, while T’s got white and gold; again, opposite coloring.

Repowered/Aged
The dreaded S2 design that changed Luna. To me, I feel this would be her natural aging style, where as the Dual Powered/Darkness Empowered forms are an unnatural aging, but also since time had passed since the darkness was stripped from them, there was plenty of time for their natural elemental magic to return to them, thus the “repowered” aspect. You can still see though that the coloring trend stays, but isn’t as drastic; L changed from a periwinkle to a darker blue, while her mane became more night sky-like. T was a darker pink, and became much lighter with her hair resembling sunset clouds. Their symbols also stayed the same.

Darkness Empowered
Again, this is a forced adult stage to me, because I like to think that one sister was seeded with a dark/chaos element that turned her evil. The power consumed her, and she changed. But like the “Dual Powered” form, the color changing patterns still work. SF became lighter, NM became darker. But whereas C was a warm white, SF is a fiery burning white (the pink outline versus the yellow one), and NM became a dark creature while L just became dark (the bat wings versus the Pegasus wings). Both their symbols darkened, but are different and darker than their Dual Powered symbols due to the differences in dark and light magics. And their manes became more elemental (SF fire, NM night sky-like). Both their eyes also changed to match their elements; SF’s eyes burned out due to her heat, and NM’s became demonic/cat-like to accumulate to the dark.

So yes, lots of over thinking and confusing color swatches But I enjoyed making this, and I hope you enjoyed reading and comparing them. If not, well sorry, but I like it so that’s all I care about
