Description Purchase this actual drawing on Etsy: [link]

I've decided that chalk pastels aren't exactly my favorite medium.

I don't like this drawing very much...I do like it sorta, but from my point of view it's got way too little detail for the amount of work I put into it. The fixative fumes have also permanently damaged my brayne.

I really do love the colors in it...I dunno...maybe I do like it. I'll decide tomorrow.

This was for a school assignment for complementary colors. I picked orange and blue as my two main colors. It had to be a landscape work and I decided to be influenced by Bierstadt in the style of this. Bierstadt was an American painter from the 1800's that would trek out into the frontier and paint fantastical paintings of the scenery and wildlife...and often what he painted was fabricated. He brought back the paintings of what he saw as part of a larger effort to persuade people to expand to the west. He's my father's favorite artist.

Chalk Pastels on 23"x30" cream stonehenge and 3-4 hours work.

EDIT May 5th, 2009: Thank you SO MUCH to ~imp-girl for featuring me in THIS news article!!!

EDIT August 10th, 2009: I've been featured in a "treasury" gallery on Etsy. The treasury expires on the 12th, but it's still neat while it's there. [link]

EDIT August 30, 2009: Another feature! Please go visit and fave it here! [link]

EDIT February 17th, 2010: No one told me if it was, but this must have been featured again...to have received no faves on this for a month then suddenly have five and counting in a few hours, it's gotta be a feature! Thank you, whoever you are! Edit again Now it's up to 11 from today! Yay!

EDIT February 18th, 2010: W00t! After 20 new faves in the last day I've hit 100 faves on this deviation! This is my third deviation to hit that mark. Thank you everybody, and thanks to =Sepulchral-Roses for being the 100th!

The cliffs were made up? They make this really work, that and the gorgeous lighting, esp. on the waterfall. This looks to be a hot, still day.

This is absolutely beautiful mate, I am not too sure what you mean when you say pastels can't really be in detail because I believe the more colours you use on top of each other for example the trees in your artwork could have had more colours amongst the leaves and that would slowly have built up the level detail just like you have done to the colour in the river.

You might want to check some of my recent deviations done with pastels.

Wow thank you very much! And I know I could...I just got mad at the pastels and the fixative.

I went and checked your gallery, though. GREAT work all around! +watch!

Wow Thank you!!! Thank you very much!!!!

I suppose you could call it that as a still-life landscape. Just remember that major portions of it are totally fabricated as well...like the cliffs.

Cool! For me it'll be from the University of Texas at Dallas for my undergraduate work. Beyond that I'm not sure. I was at the University of Texas at Austin last year, and I've been at the community college for this year just to get any other easy classes out of the way for CHEAP, and am back on the big scene again this next year.

It looks warm and lovely like a hot summer's day. Great work with chalk pastels, you really did a good job. (Personally, I find them rather hard to work with >_O.)

Oh thank you very much!! Yeah I also found them quite difficult and painful to work with. I'm glad you like the finished product!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Octobig In reply to kproductions [2009-04-29 18:06:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they can really be a pain in the ass. I always had the problem that the chalk got everywhere and then I ended up destroying my picture

And of course I like the finished product!

kproductions In reply to Octobig [2009-04-30 14:23:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I had that same problem. There's like five layers of fixative on this in places.

And thank you very much!

I love the colors

They're like chalk that's just a little bit harder and can ruin your expensive paper if you're not careful with them.

Oh yeah, and DON'T USE THEM OVER A CARPET!!! >_<
