Today's politicians could learn a great deal from this.
More people would listen to them, if only they had boobs like hers.
Kevin Rudd sure should consider this eh?

Random thing bugging me: communism and capitalism aren't forms of governments, they are forms of economics. Which can't replace something like democracy.
π: 0 β©: 1
Serendipitous-Way In reply to CGodfrey [2008-03-09 00:53:29 +0000 UTC]
they're economics, but apply to gov. too
capitalism subverts the system for the few by accumulating wealth which is power
communism has to do with the even distribution of justice and goods which is a big part of gov, and is ok until you see it f*s up and ends up with the doors blown off and upside down in a ditch off some obscure side road because no one works if they're gonna get their shit anyway
crude, but that's how i see, and i could be wrong

capΒ·iΒ·talΒ·ism /ΛkΓ¦ΙͺtlΛΙͺzΙm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kap-i-tl-iz-uhm] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
βnoun
an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp. as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.
comΒ·muΒ·nism /ΛkΙmyΙΛnΙͺzΙm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kom-yuh-niz-uhm] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
βnoun
1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2. (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
---------------------------------------------
I always find it important to make a reference, this way, if the debate were to continue, and one side loses, the "not what i was talking about" card can't be pulled)
The common belief that power can be attained from capitalism and directed to democracy is very valid, however, that is no reason to say that capitalism (or communism, which would be harder to do with) can replace democracy. Because you acquire power and influence (read: money) doesn't guarantee victory over the poor. Theoretically, someone who has the money to put his name on a ballot can win any election they are eligible for.
And democracy doesn't say anything about wealth. It says everyone gets a vote. A rich person's vote is just the same as the disenfranchised/downtrodden/poor. All votes are equal. The reason people seem to think otherwise (at least in America) is because there are so very few countries that actually practice true democracy. Why? Because it is difficult to do when there are millions of voters. Countries like America say they are a democracy, but in reality, it is a republic. Voters chose who represents them for the votes. These people tend to be rich, but that isn't always the case either, they just become rich through elected salaries (at the higher levels).
Capitalism tends to be a very self sustaining type of economy, despite crashes. Why? Because it gives anyone a chance. If you have a good idea, or some invention that can make lives easier, you can get your piece of the pie. It breeds competition (when monitored), and encourages growth and revolutionary ideas. It is very closely associated with democracy because of that very reason. However, since we don't live in Barter Town, capitalism is NOT a form of government, just an economic system.

Points to you.
My only point was supposed to be that politics and economics don't exist in a vacuum - they lean heavily on each other, and capitalist tendencies usually favour the wealthy, since it is possible for wealth to buy power, be it power by force or influence, although it all has limits.
All of which your explanation does a better job explaining than mine. My political savvy fails - I know my politics can be rather crude.
And although I agree that capitalism can't replace a democratic system, Iβd argue that it could contribute to the erosion of constitutional, legal or judicial rights within that democratic system and thereby undermine its values and promote a new system with different or more extreme policies.
That aside, I still have to say I agree with you.
