On inspecting the 'image', Inspector Clouseau/Pink Panther said "Mon Dieu, ze dog has a wide grin and the artist has carefully put in heavy shadows, with doubt whether Monsieur Scooby eez in rigourΒ between his legs....I am suspicious of dogs in this situation...not because I am a cat(panther)...."

"Shrooby Ruby Roooooooooooo! Heeheeehee!"
Lovely depiction. Looks quite good.
Most probably won't understand the subtle referencing in Scooby Doo, but here goes for those too young. The cartoon was based on the late 60's / early 70's during the peace & love rebellion against the Vietnam war, hence teens, and young adults getting in vans to travel cross country to Woodstock - vans to have sex and do "mind altering substances" in on their cross country road - "trips". What mysteries might unfold on the way?Β

scalhotrod In reply to nakedfunn [2016-08-22 18:16:47 +0000 UTC]
Actually that was never the intention. Shaggy was just a en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatnik without the drug references. That's what Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera thought made the character funny. Scooby was actually the last character created and intended to be just a sidekick for Shaggy.
If there had been any association with drugs, Casey Kasem would have never voiced Shaggy. In fact, back in the late 90s he refused to voice the character in the direct to video "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island" because it included a scene where Scooby and Shaggy ate a pile of crawfish. Kasem, a vegan, objected to it and asked that the scene be rewritten. The writers refused saying that it was integral to the story so Kasem walked off the project.
They found a DJ from Louisiana that could manage to sound just like Kasem for about a sentence at a time, but not for longs stretches of dialog like Kasem used to do.
So Shaggy was anything, but a pot head.

Oh I know... And I wasn't trying to give you hard time, I just like to spread the word when I can. I knew Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera when I worked for the studio many years ago.

That is cool. Back then there was still at least some art form sprinkled within by talented people. Today's TV entertainment all seems to be endless commercials. I often wonder if each new generation is raised so cluelessly that they don't know the difference between true meaningful philosophical questions verses product slogans. I'd better stop before I get into an endless rant.Β Β

You're not far off, but if it makes you feel any better, we were all asking ourselves the same things. I had a conversation with Joe Barbera once about creating new shows. His only advice was to focus on making an interesting story with likable characters. Do that and you have a winning formula. Make it too deep or too hard to figure out (from an entertainment perspective) and it won't work. Audiences are not stupid, they know a commercial when they see one.
This is why Disney, Hanna-Barbera, and Warner Bros. are accused over and over of doing the sameΒ thing just with a different theme. The simple reason is that IT WORKS.

I'm sure it does work. I was raised on TV (sorry to say) and over the decades you notice a pattern, that in a conflict opposition of two sides eventually one side gets their way because unlike stories that draw to a neat close life keeps going on, and on until the money side wins and everyone else loses.
