Description
A Few Quarters More
03.05.24
By Kevin R. Mitchell
In stories about power
Beings outside of time
Seemingly knowing everything
About our double spiraling line
Reduced to living some simple fraction
For lowest common denominator math
Rounding out their asymmetrical action
Forming before a soaking Roman bath
Washed away whatever was
Except for some guiding stones
Termed as our prehistoric bones
As each new generation does
Resonating in rippling echoes
Of what light could have been
Before more crippling might
Grows as a living river flows
When a storied ending
Suddenly begins again
Blowing so many years ago
Down a dusty country road
Somehow syncing our time
Passed an apocalyptic sign
Sparking froth from our brine
Into a welcoming glow divine
Thoughts in a laundromat
Watching my washer spin
For just a few quarters more
I’m gonna watch it call again
Like my smiling happy friend
In those days before the end
