Description
Ratings: docs.google.com/document/d/1Gs…The Twisted Timeline of Sammy and Raj is an animated series produced for Nickelodeon internationally (from India, specifically), it rolled out around other international Nickelodeons around late-2022/early-2023 (being the first of its kind to do so, I think), which is how I got to watch it at first, back then I remember having thought it was decent, but nothing special. Yet, for some reason, I still thought about rewatching it, I mean, it was a short show so even if it was bad it wouldn't take me too much of my time. So, after I was done with my TLH rewatch, I decided to pop this show in every now and then, and... yeeeah it was kinda underwhelming.
So, this show follows the titular cousin-brothers Sammy and Raj, which (somehow) have an app that allows them to... travel through time, I guess? Sometimes it's as simple as fast-forwarding a couple of seconds, but other times it can basically take them about a year into the past, but whatever, point is, they change time in any way they please, unless it's trying to travel to a time period before the app was invented. Most of the time they simply use the app to solve any regular problem, which usually backfires due to some oversight, and they have to solve it in a different way, most of the time because of the app not working.
Well, yeah. I think my main problem with this show is just that it is repetitive. Most plots blend with each other, and even if they don't, they're still pretty predictable most of the time, which makes a lot of episodes kinda difficult to care about. Characters themselves are nothing special, they're far from the most interesting or compelling characters ever, but I think they get the job done, sometimes ocassionally throwing some decent one-liners that make the watching experience slightly less dull.
Oh yeah, and speaking of humor, meh. Most jokes don't really land the way they want to, either due to off-looking animation, or just because of a joke not working (seriously this show has fart jokes like 10 years after they were popular), and as such, it kinda falls flat as a result.
In terms of positives, I'll say I like how they adapt Indian culture into a format that's able to reach out for people that aren't familiar with it, it helps the show stand out in that way, and it's just interesting to see stuff from different cultures be portrayed in a medium as broad as animation.
But I honestly don't have much to say beyond that, I guess some episodes were relatively interesting, one even managed to get a B+ tier, but eh.
Overall, this show is kinda flat and predictable when it comes to its plots, it does a decent job portraying its culture, but there's honestly not much to this one beyond the novelty, it's just Weak (4.5/10), really.
