"Next stop, Chechnya!"

This is my first soft lamps artwork I feel that I can actually call "artwork" and is probably my best one yet. Don't get me wrong, I was satisfied with how my previous pieces came out. They were a big step up from when I first started playing 'funny haha sandbox game' when I was younger and didn't even know basic three point lighting, but it always felt like things were missing. Not enough detail, lighting coming out weird, obvious clipping issues, boring backgrounds, things that kept piling on that made it feel subpar, which in a way, I guess is true.

I've only just understood the soft lamps process earlier this year and have only been using it for source art for maybe just a month. Putting just a little bit more time into these renders and constantly working with them have allowed me to push the boundaries of the source engine and create realistic looking pieces I could only dream of creating. There's still a lot for me to improve on to get to the same level as the top dogs (Just open the artwork tab in the Gmod community hub or simply look at other source artists on this site, you'll see what I mean).

This DeviantArt account will help me to look back on my progress as I strive to make better source engine art, and I think I'm progressing along quite well...
