Description
It was Tuesday. Tuesdays were Johnny's favorite day of the week. Some of the barn workers would head off every Saturday and hit up a bunch of different horse auctions over the weekend and they would drive back with their new acquisitions, usually arriving bright and early Tuesday morning.
Johnny was a social horse. He loved people and other horses, he thrived on the attention he got around them. He mostly got along with all the other horses at the barn. Most of the stallions were laid back and friendly, content to let Johnny take center stage as head stallion. Every once in a while a new male would come in, vying for the spot, but Johnny had enough supporters that it was never a big deal. So, essentially, the trailer either meant a new friend or a new mare.
Mares were a whole different ballpark. Johnny loved his friends, but he REALLY loved the ladies. He was handsome and quite charming, and never failed to sweep them off their hooves in a whirl of smooth talk and cassanovism. Life was perfect for him, he had friends who adored him and mare groupies who hung on his every word. While his owners mostly kept him separate from the mares so no surprises could occur, it didn't matter. He was happy.
The trailer pulled in, right on schedule. Johnny lifted his head, scenting the air. A grin touched his face. Mare. The workers stepped in the trailer and the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes upon. He wasn't the only one who noticed, a few other peafries gathered around, unable to keep from staring.
They released the grey mare into the paddock beside him and she walked serenely around, taking in her new home. She saw him and let out a friendly whinny. He grinned to himself, easy target. He answered her call, but instead of approaching, she turned and took off, stretching her legs after the long haul, mane flying in the wind.
