My other idea is that the "second curse" is still there because Emma didn't completely break the curse at the end of the last season.

Ever thought of endeavoring to do a Hook portrait? I am guessing, since you love this pairing, you may HATE Hook by now...but I can't help it, I LOOOOVE that character. I realize his sexyness may have completely blinded me though! hahah

Well, there are only 1 and a half
seasons right now.
Season 1 has 22 episodes, season 2 is only about
half-way finished with 12 episodes.
Each episode is about 42 minutes. --> (that's like 24 hours total)
So however long it would take you to watch those.
