Description
A classic spring scene as 'Jubilee' No. 45690 Leander weaves along the Cumbrian coastline at St. Bees, between Carlisle and Carnforth on 24th March 2018.
A lovely part of England and a lot of time I have spent up there on holiday.
'Leander' built in 1936 at Crewe, one of 191 of its class by the LMS [London, Midlands and Scottish Railway] as number 5690. Her home base or shed being in Crewe and working outwards from there.
When British Railway was formed from the big merger in 1948. A prefix 4 was added to the locomotive's number now making it 45690.
'Leander' was withdrawn from service in 1964.
And of those 191 class members, four survive into the modern day, most of the class being withdrawn between 1960 and 1967.
