It depends. There is a lot of way to do it actually. For exemple, if you want a soft shadow, why not using a soft black round brushes and change the opacity and/or change the blend mode
For a more precise shadow, it depends on your lightning and there is a lot of way to do it. It depends on the way you work but since I don't know how to draw a character (which is a really disapointement for me D', I can't really help you on this
