I would like to clarify the 21 age range is specifically how he looked just during the worst years of the dust bowl, although with economic and natural life in Kansas slowly returning to normal, he still was sickly looking into the early 40s (losing his farm and culmination of illness caused him to develop depression) After around 1943, his hair returned to its healthier color and he started gaining weight and muscle back.
