Kiara has a complicated relationship with the idea of being queen. As a young cub she was completely opposed to it, she’d much rather be free and have no responsibilities whatsoever. Simba and Nala were completely baffled that their daughter that was so like them, in so many ways, could be so different from her father in that aspect. They just assumed (and hoped) that it was just a phase that wouldn’t last.

But for a long time, it didn’t. Kion, on the other hand, was fully embracing his role as the Lion Guard’s Leader and was proving to be very good at it too. Simba decided it was time for him to start taking a more proactive role in getting Kiara ready to be queen. As such, he started taking her along with him on his morning patrols. Teaching her about the Great Circle of Life and all that.

Kiara is supposed to be a young teen here. Somewhere between her lion guard age and her Simba’s Pride age.
