Description
Bloonbat and Bombat are explosive Bat Balloon Pokemon. They are typically found lurking in the darkest cave where they divebomb unsuspecting trainers as they pass underneath them. They are prone to using devistating attacks like Selfdestruct and Explosion, sacrificing themselves simply out of spite. Both Bloonbat and Bombat have bright glowing eyes that can be seen in the darkness moments before they attack. Otherwise they tend to be slumbering peacefully, it's best you not wake them. They're both Fire/Flying type and boast high HP stats, average attacking stats and weak Speed and Defenses. In addition to the moves Selfdestruct and Explosion, they also boast the ability aftermath making them a very dangerous encounter.
The idea behind these dudes is kind of a revelation about Koffing and Weezing, which are a very similar concept in gen 1. Obviously, I can't just do an exact repeat, but I really like the concept of that type of threat for a more rouge-like experience. It's not uncommon in rouge-like games for suicide bomb based enemies to exist, and I think in gen 1 they tapped into that with the aforementioned Koffing and Weezing, but they weren't fully realized in an RPG setting where you can simply return to the Pokemon Center or use the prevalent Revive items to remove the threat almost entirely. In a rouge-like setting an enemy that can sacrifice itself to permanently remove a party member is much more serious, thus I kind of leaned in on the demon/imp look to represent the devilish intent of this Fakemon. They also present an interesting option for a party member since you can sacrifice them from your party to remove what could otherwise be an insurmountable barrier, from say a Legendary encounter or a particularly difficult trainer.
I tried to give them a very offensive based typing that was also extremely vulnerable defensively that also fit in perfectly with the theme. I also wanted to make them defensively weak and slow so that you can make plan around them and have strategies to dispatch of them, like most threats in this type of game.
