Then again, it will be interesting to see how Stan will handle this by himself...

If it's the show making him act a certain way, isn't he by definition acting in-character?

I have to say that this is one of my favorite episodes. It wasn't because of the shipping (though seeing the flood of fanart was nice, heheh). It was because it showed how it would play out if you loved someone who didn't love you, even after all this time, and you're stuck in a rut with absolutely no help getting out - and doing your best to deal with it, even so. These characters are more believable to me than ever. 8D

I think the writers also wanted to just make things hard for Stan. See how it is with absolutely no friends behind him...

It also showed the pure irony when he actually didn't want his friends to get behind him, or his parents to get back together. At the end of every cheesy movie, the main character finally realizes how to get over having to let go, and everything falls into place conveniently. This time, the convenient route wasn't wanted, but received anyways. They became friends again, and the parents got back together.
He wasn't really able to mature himself, though everyone else seems to be able to, because he's permanently stuck in his rut - be wasn't given the chance to move on. It was surprising for me, actually, because I was used to a show beginning with a plot and, by the end, everything returning to normal and everyone acting like it never happened like usual. It's refreshing to see that it isn't.
All that said, I hope he gets over it and the four stay BFFS.

Because Kyle is actually aging mentally, something we never knew South Park characters could do.

Its not just Stan thats having a hard time. I think Kyle is just dealing with the situation in a very selfish way.

I love the crosshatching. It's really nice.
Such a sad picture. Poor Stan. And, Kyle, come on man. Hug him back.

I love your soft coloring, man.
Then again, what about Kyle's actions were OOC in this ep? I thought it was pretty in keeping with how he's always been, i.e. kind of a self centered dick.

...
GOOD POINT.
xD
Its always been Stan that went out of his way to help Kyle. Kyle, once again, is being an asshole.
