Important Locations
Kinloch Hold: The headquarters of the Maester Order. Built by the Dwarves and Avvars for the purpose of being the center of learning in The south. Later, it also became the place where Skinchangers and those with the sight would go to learn to control their power.
The Wolfsroad: Considered by many to be apart of the Imperial Highway by the rest of Thedas, the Wolfsroad was actually constructed by the Starks using Avvarian and Dwarven expertise in Stone working. Stretching from Gwaren in the Southeast to the Icebridge In the West, it connects most of the major cities and castles in the South and is the only human made road in the Elvhen controlled Elfswood.
Winterhold: The seat of House Stark and Capital of the South. Whereas the Capitals in Thedas are all cities, Winterhold is a Huge Fortress. Just like every castle and city in the South, Winterhold has a godswood with an ancient Weirwood, that was first planted by Rickard the Conqueror.
The Dales: After the Northern war, the Starks rewarded the Elvhen, both the slaves that fought alongside the Starks and those who kept the ways of Arlathan, with the part of the South that were West of the Frostback Mountains. After the next four centuries, the Chantry and the Dales waged what would become known as the Elvhen Wars, or the Exalted Marches as they are called by the chantry. After the Revenge, the Dalish king bent the knee to the Starks, who fought alongside the Elvhen during the wars, as a way of repaying their debt to the Starks as well as to ensure aid in rebuilding what was destroyed.
Important events
Rickards Conquest: The War that Rickard Stark Fought to conquer the Avvar and Alamarri to create what would become the oldest kingdom in Thedas. Rickard Stark also founded the site for Winterhold by planting a weirwood tree where it would be built. This is the start of the Southron calender and started in -886 TE/-2081 Ancient.
The (new) Pact: During the Conquest, Rickard came into contact with the Elvhen. Instead of conquering them, there was something about them that reminded him of the Children of the Forest and with that in mind, Rickard formed a Pact with them that was similar to the one made with the Children of the Forest. The Terms of the pact were that the Humans would take the lowlands and hills while the Elvhen would have the Elfswood, Korcari Wilds, Arbor Wilds, and the Frostback Mountains. To cement the Pact, the First Men planted a weirwood tree on the spot where the meeting took place and carved a face with both human and Elvhen features on it when it grew large enough. Almost as if the Gods and Creators approved of the pact, the tree became one of the largest trees in the Elfswood.
The Northern War: Called the First Exalted March by the Chantry, The Northern war was the Souths invasion of the Tevinter Imperium after Andraste, or by her true name Ygritte Stark, escaped slavery in the imperium and ran South. After getting his daughter back safe, Benjin Stark Called the banners as well as asking the Elvhen for aid, and invaded the Imperium. It was during this war that the Chant of Light says that Ygritte had visions from the Maker and Her Disciples founded the Chantry.
The Elvhen Wars: Known to the Chantry as the Exalted Marches called against the Dales. Every war has ended in defeat, even if only just, for the Chantry since the Starks have sided with the Dales. Thanks to the Arrival of the Qunari, the number of Exalted Marches called against the Dales have fallen sharply.
The Revenge: Thirty years ago, Orlais Invade the Dales with swift attacks from the west and north. In a matter of Months, the capital of the Dales, Halamshiral, found itself undersiege. The Starks hurried to the aid of the Dales but were unable to get to Halamshiral before the Orlesian forces sacked the city and burnt it to the ground. Unfortunately for Orlais, this was to be their last victory in the war as the Starks, along with the remains of the Dalish armies, met the main Orlesian army in battle outside the Ruins of Halamshiral and crushed them. It was in this battle that King Maric Stark met Emperor Reynaud in battle and ran him through with the Stark family Sword. Even with the Emperor dead, Maric felt that a blood debt was still owed the dalish and with their help and the tactical genius of a young soldier by the name of Loghain Mac Tir, the combined Dalish-Southron army marched north, relieving every siege they came across and attacked the Orlesian capital of Val Royeaux. As Payment for the Burning of Halamshiral and for every Exalted March called on the Dales, Val Royeaux was sacked, but not burnt by orders of maric, and the Grand Cathedral was sacked and torn down as a warning to the rest of Thedas. The Dalish, as payment for the Starks aiding them in their darkest hour outside of a Blight, bent the knee to Maric.
