Monster Of The Week: The Van Meter Visitor
This week's monster is comes from the wide world of cryptozoology. And Iowa. In October of 1903, the small town of Van Meter began to report a monstrous entity prowling the skies at night. The strange beast set off waves of mass panic and terror in the little community, and finally, having had enough, the towns folk followed the flying monster back to its lair, which was in an old mine on the edge of town. To their suprise, there was not one, but two of the flying abominations there. The angry mob then chased the two creatures into the mine and tossed in some dynamite behind them, which leveled the mine on the two creatures. The early papers depicted what would come to be known as the Van Meter Visitor as some kind of dragon, but strangely enough, the actually descriptions sounded more like a pterosaur of some kind. One of the more bizarre aspects claimed that the head of the Visitor had organ on it that seemed to glow with a blinding light. So I gotta admitt I love the idea of a Pteradactyl with freaking lasers attacking a small mid western community.
