Rose was always rushing to her goals, never dwelling on the path of mistakes it caused on her way. Convincing her witchcraft trainer that she was ready to study her spellbook unsupervised was the latest act in her sprint to achieve. She tore through the pages for an incantation that would unlock her potential and allow her to ascend to power faster than any before her.

Rose found one in the section of prophecy; “Marastakar, grant unto my body that which will be ahead of me. Hosisofait!” She quickly tried the first and last words on her tongue, the enactors, to get them right. She skipped practicing the basic English - how hard could that be to say?

Her book laid out, her wand ready, her room closed, her mind racing (when it should have been cleared and calm; not that she knew what that was like), Rose began the spell. She pointed the wand to her temple and recited the words - incorrectly.

”Marastakar, grant unto my body that which will be head me. Hosisofait!”

If Rose had stopped speaking before the last enactor was uttered, the spell would have done nothing. She would have had the time to try again. But in her impatience, she spoke both enactors. The spell she said took effect. The last thing she saw was the glow of her wand before her world went dark and silent.

Spells do not care what you want them to do. Spells only know what you ask them to do. Rose asked the spell to behead her, and that is what the spell did.

Rose dropped her wand. Her hands made futile swipes over her barren neck. She crawled around for any sign of her lost appendage but failed. She stumbled to her feet in a panic, waving her arms, still trying to rush to her newest goal: getting her head back.

Too bad the spell for that would require her to speak it.
