Shade is a large, thick pelted black and golden tom with soft, deep, sunset orange eyes. Shade is far taller than most cats, and has piston like legs and quite wide shoulders. For a large cat he can move very quickly, and can run at top speed for a long time. He had soft features, and a lovely, calming smile, Shade is an impeccably calm, understanding cat due to his emotional intelligence, and is excellent with kits in particular, he also has nerves of absolute steel, and can stare most cats without losing his cool.
Shade is however, a naive tom. He is still very young and tries to believe the best of every cat he meets, he’ll often justify everything a cat does and try and sympathise in order to understand them, making him a prime target for manipulation. He is no where near skeptical enough and often blindly trusts others, which will most likely cause him problems in the future. Additionally, shade is more likely to ball up if frightened than attack, it would take extreme emotional stress to get him to lash out.

History:
Parents:
Shade’s parents were Thrush (the youngest brother of cobalt’s litter), a friendly and charming chocolate tabby tom, and Lady, the daughter of one of the most dangerous cats around at the time.
Lady and Thrush tried in to keep their relationship secret from lady’s father for as long as they could, however when Lady fell pregnant unexpectedly the two had to make an escape plan, fast. Lady planned to make a break for it when the group entered twolegplace, but when they were about half way through the city the she cat fell into labour, forcing the two to hide, praying her violent father wouldn’t find them.
Lady gave birth without many complications, to a litter of 3 healthy kits, 2 toms and a she kit. The two managed to evade the kit’s grandfather and his company for 5 weeks, long enough for all of the kits to have opened their eyes. However, this is when the family’s time and luck finally ran out.
Lady and shade’s siblings were brutally murdered, Thrush barely escaping to the screams of his mate behind him. He traveled for days, often without food or water, desperately trying to keep ahead of his assailants and keep his son from dying (as the little tom was barely old enough to eat fresh kill, and was becoming too ill to even try), it was by complete accident that the desperate father ran into Cobalt, and after making her promise to not tell his son who he was (for fear he would come looking for him) he left to face his father in law.
Kithood:
Shade barely seemed to remember his family, the little tom was given to Dante and mayfair to raise by a shaken cobalt, and although the little black tom would occasionally ask where his father was, he seemed to quickly forget and settled into his new home.
As a kit Shade was very loving and inquisitive, he spent all the time mayfair would let him exploring the league camp and asking every rogue who wasn’t intimidating questions about his home and the clans. The little tom took a particular liking to Cobalt, the league’s healer and vice, The she cat checked up on the tom frequently in the nursery and as soon as he could walk he could be found in her den, getting under her feet and asking questions, much to the annoyance of her fledgling Arum. As Shade grew up he got to know the league cats better, in particular Iceview, a very close friend of Cobalt, whom, to the confusion of many league cats, also took a great fondness to the tortie tom. Shade idolised the thick furred she cat, much to the concern of his adoptive parents, and by request on his and cobalt’s behalf, as he became of age, she was assigned to be his supervisor.
Fledglinghood:
Shade quickly excelled under Iceview’s training, though he wasn’t great at combat Shade quickly proved he was a great hunter, and honed his abilities under her careful supervision. Most importantly however, Iceview taught Shade to stand strong in the face of conflict. The bossy she cat’s personality rubbed off on the tom a little, and as he aged he became more and more confident in his abilities, without losing his kind nature.
During this time he became close to both his supervisor and to a degree, Cobalt as well, both she cats had no qualms making time for the young tom, occasionally Shade would even get snippets of herbal information from his aunt, and Shade found himself sharing prey with them many days when he wasn’t with his adoptive family.
This idlic time in shade’s life came swiftly to an end however, with the beginning of the war.
After Blixen was found dead, the furious league was quick to violently retaliate,
Before Shade could even experience the chaos of battle he and Cobalt were attacked whilst on a short patrol, the two had been skirting around a twoleg path for herbs and had been viciously attacked by two clan warriors. Cobalt had attempted to reason with them but the situation quickly resulted in a scuffle. Shade was still young and barely held off the tom he was fighting, almost astounded at the vicious nature which the healer he had known all his life was tearing at the other cat. Cobalt had barely managed to get the upper hand and winded the cat she was fighting, taking the opportunity she quickly bowled over the other tom and after a final, vicious tussle, she managed to snap his neck. This being enough to scare the remaining clan cat off.
Despite winning the battle, cobalt had earned some nasty scars for her efforts, and was thoroughly exhausted, Shade however, although he was relatively unharmed was horrified at what had happened, the kit had never seen death before and although he hadn’t been the one to deal the final blow he was very shaken. It took the she cat what seemed like hours to coax the kit away from the body and get him to calm down enough to return to camp, cobalt told him as they were walking back that she would tell thornheart that it had been his kill, the tom was too numb to argue and simply nodded. He was made a full member the same day.
It was barely a moon later when his foster father Dante was killed in battle, Shade had been no where near the incident as iceview had chosen to stick to the outskirts of the battle on that particular occasion, but when the tom found out he was heartbroken, he hadn’t been as close to Dante as his adopted siblings but the loss still had an effect on him, little did Shade know he wasn’t the only family member he would be losing.
Shade actually managed to avoid the infamous fire battle due to cobalt and iceview getting into an argument. Cobalt had been insisting on going into battle with the other league cats, and iceview had been vehemently refusing to allow it. The compromise was Shade remaining at camp to defend the camp where he would be safe. Cobalt spent the entire battle deeply worried however, even as wounded cats started to return to camp. As the fire died downs Shade started to recover a little, his adoptive mother was still grieving heavily for her lost mate but having left the war she was starting to recover somewhat, which gave Shade a ray of hope that maybe things would be ok.
He couldn’t have been more wrong.
Shade had been sitting next to his mentor during the meeting, he had just came back from a brief patrol, seeing no clan cats along the way, he had been confused by the abrupt meeting and as his mentor’s friend openly challenged his leader he quickly became fearful.
From that moment on all he could remember was the shocked cries of his fellow league members, cobalt’s blood seeping into the ground and Arum’s cries of grief and shock as he tried to rouse his dead supervisor. Shade had gone into complete shock at that point, it seemed to him like the world had finally gone mad, he spent the night with his supervisor, Iceview hadn’t slept at all but shade practically passed out, unknowing of the brewing fury and bloodlust rising in Iceview that Cobalt once been able to quell.
It had started with Bluesun’s death, shade hadn’t been witness to it but from the terrified murmurings of other league cats and his mother about the tom she had teamed up with, shade’s shock and grief turned into fear and worry. This couldn’t be the she cat who he had grown up around, could it?
Shade didn’t have much time to comprehend what had happened to Iceview, as the league quickly started to march on the clans in one final attack. During the march Shade had tried his best to stick to Iceview, though her gaze seemed hollow and distant. Suddenly she broke away from the huge patrol flanked by a huge group of cats, Shade was stunned for a few seconds but when he tried to follow the furious yowl from a vice to “get back in line!” Sent him scampering backwards.
The final battle was long and bloody, shade barely knew what to do with himself. All the shock and loss over such a short period had left him a confused, shaking mess, a shout of anger from a soldier sent him into a panicked rush down the slope, and into one of the most dangerous cats he could have come into contact with.
Shade and platinumfire didn’t clash for long. The she cat was barely bigger than him but was far more skilled than he was, it was out of terror and desperation that as the tom found himself on his back he raised his claws and brought them down on the deputy’s face. Platinumfire’s shrieks were what finally broke him somewhat out of his daze, horrified with the damage he’d caused shade ran to hide at the back of the den, after another clan cat had threatened him Shade finally escaped the camp as it started to rain. He arrived at the Stoneclan camp, paw pads bleeding from the blind sprint across the territory, stumbling blindly into the nursery by accident as he flinched away from the clan cats, and it was there that he found the body of his supervisor, her stomach ripped and clotted with blood and her head limp to the side. Shade hopelessly tried to get her up, and finally curled under her once powerful foreleg, closing his eyes and crying, begging starclan for this nightmare to end.
That was how the clan cats found him. They left him alone for the most part and once they dragged Iceview and the other dead league cats far enough away from their camp they left him alone. The league cobbled together a patrol of mostly h harmed cats to bring back the bodies and shade was finally returned home, to the tears and relief of mayfair, many cats had assumed he had died in the last battle as he hadn’t returned. Shade was a wreck for a while after the war, he helped to bury Iceview with the other league cats, next to Cobalt on a little hill in a clearing of the burial grounds, but mostly he stayed in the warm comfort of his mother. Slowly he began to bring up his confidence again and started hunting, talking more to his fellow league members. He finally managed to relax, the war had been a nightmare that had claimed almost everyone around him but it was over now. As shade improved he was assigned the role of mediator by the newly formed council, it was clear to all of the league cats that he was perfect for the job, and he happily accepted. During this time Mayfair discovered she was pregnant with Dante’s kits again, and Shade was ecstatic at the idea of being an older brother, after the litter was born Shade made sure to visit them as much as he could, playing with the kits and telling them stories Cobalt used to tell him, he endured the sickness and the pain of losing evening and many other kits during it, and is currently trying to keep a smile on his face for the sake of his family.

“it was late evening in the forest, the chilling breeze that had been assaulting the League's camp had iced down and now the first signs of new leaf were starting to show themselves. Cobalt was lying in the entrance of the main base, her striped pelt dusted with some dirt from hiding in her den most of the day, and a few flakes of snow from an earlier expedition she had taken to find some more cobwebs for her already dwindling stash. The Vice's hazel eyes were fixed on something in the distance, after awhile of staring, she well muscled she cat stood up and called over her shoulder to one of the rogues in the camp, before padding out briskly into the forest.
truth be told Cobalt had been very antsy since the collapse of her den, despite Iceview's consolations that there would be very few fights until newleaf begins, the shortage of cobwebs in the Vice's possession was making her very uneasy. After a ten minuets of her brisk pace the vice stopped and opened her mouth to scent the air, it looked like she was reaching the very edges of clan and league territory. Perhaps she could find something useful here?“
