I was a bit hesitant about posting this, since this is a particularly personal drawing for me--and, y'know, people get flamed for posting stuff like this--but whatever. Nevermind that it's freaking AU from everything and I think the pair is actually a good couple with one of them genderbent. (Not that I mind the slash stuff, I just don't draw it. Or write it. Cool? Cool.)

Rough story lowdown goes that the lovely Shadow has faked her way into King Sonic's castle as a princess in the thing that his mother Queen Aleena of Mobotropolis has set up (some cliche contest thing to get Sonic to look at some other girls now that his beloved Queen Sally has died and their children disappeared [presumed dead in an attack by the evil dictator Robotnik], leaving him a widower and with no heirs) to get to something in the catacombs under the castle. No one really knows what's down there, but supposedly there's a vial of Unicorn's Tears hidden in one of the rooms. According to the stories, Shadow's family gave it to the monarchy of the Kingdom of Acorn for safekeeping, and she wants to reclaim it for her (adoptive) sister Maria, to see if it will really cure her disease like the legends claim.

Shadow, of course, is the one that captures the king's attention. She is simply the most genuine out of the women there, older or younger, since she could not care less--at first--about whether she becomes anything to the king, and then simply wants to become his friend once she gets to know him a bit. Shadow, for her part, does -like- Sonic, but intends to let nothing come of it, given that her entire "background" is a lie to gain her entrance to the contest and Acorn Castle, and "Princess Shadow" will eventually have to disappear...

Sonic, of course, catches on somewhere down the line, and is relieved to also find out that Shadow is not there to seduce him for any reason. You see, the Cure Vial (as it is called by the monarchs of Acorn) is kept in the the chamber below the Crown's Quarters, the safest place in any of the catacombs, and can only be accessed by a legitimate ruler of Acorn from above, or a legitimate member of Shadow's birth family from below. The legends Shadow knows only mention the way from below. She, time running out for her sister, turns to King Sonic in her frustration and blurts out the whole story. She knows that the hero will of course remove her from the contest (and, she presumes, his affections, since she lied) regardless of the outcome, but will also be willing to save a person in need if he can. Sonic, being Sonic, simply walks off for a bit and comes back with the Cure Vial, puts it in her hands, and -then- attempts to talk her into coming back.

Kissing and ambiguity as to future decisions ensue.

There's a lot more to it, but I'm not gonna type it here. I already had to edit like mad on the summary. I might write up a not-so-personal/better disguised version of the story later for here, but I might as well just post my diary to my DA journal if I tell you the origins of this story. I normally don't mind, but it kinda involves somebody else. Use your imagination, I guess. I guess I just needed to share in a language this person speaks, but in a way that is obvious to no one but me (I hope).
