Rayman was the game I grew up playing. The daycare I stayed at had it installed on the computers, so I played
it all the time. Flipping through 'PC Gamer' magazine when they announced the arrival of the new Rayman got me
thinking about the good ol' days of playing Rayman. So I promptly bought the $6 download, played to my hearts
content and drew this fanart poster.
I generally like to draw in my own style, but I loved the style of Rayman too much to stray and decided to simply
make a collage of the characters, staying completely true to their original designs.

I think when it comes down to it, Ray-1 is actually a more detailed design. In the newer designs
everything kind of molds together and has a more stream-lined look to it, while Ray-1 has more
shapes and segments to him

Yes, and he was so expressive in that game, too. I fell totally in love with his movements and facial expressions.

Ya, all the dancing, urging you forward, teasing the enemies and whenever he got hurt it made me feel bad, haha.
I played Rayman 2 and just didn't get the same feeling

I think they did pretty well with Rayman 2 all things considered, but the 3D models were just too primitive at the time (even now, I don't think 3D is up to the expressiveness of actual hand drawing). Rayman's personality in the first game is still the best by far.

I personally think Rayman was one of those games that just needs to remain a 2D side-scroller.
I'm very excited for Rayman Origins that just came out, it looks great. I don't know, I just feel
like some games don't need to jump on the 3D bandwagon - and Rayman is one of them.

Rayman Origins looks beautiful, I hope it revives more interest in 2D games. Still, I prefer his personality (and also the limbless world) in the first Rayman game.
