This was also an assignment for class! In my Adobe Illustrator class one of our assignments was to find a movie poster, or picture we could turn into a movie poster, and re-create it in Illustrator. This was done by having the original image on a template layer and drawing around sections of it with the pen tool. After that, we could use the gradient mesh tool, transparencies, or both to achieve the coloring. I primarily used the gradient mesh tool, with some transparencies over top in certain places to help blend everything together. There was no painting, all paths and gradient mesh.It was hard to get the hang of the gradient mesh tool for a while! I did Wonka's glove first and I wanted to kill somebody XD But after I completed the glove I was awesome with the gradient mesh tool and I didn't hate it anymore! (we made friends...)
My teacher gave me a high quality metallic print of this poster that looks freaking sweet, it is also one of several hanging in our mac lab. ^_^
Anyway, this project was EXTREMELY time consuming, and I love the result

OMIGOD, you did this in Illustrator? COooooooool.... Gradient mesh tool... gotta take note of that... You blended the colors really well, especiall with the glove!
