Description Been a while, been busy. Not many pencil doodles these days, but, well, just wanted to show you guys where I'm at, I guess! I still draw really awkward bodies, but they're getting a little better, I hope. This time last year I barely drew any bodies at all, hahah!
Focusing on emotive bodies rather than faces is something I really want to be able to do well, too.

...And I guess the pencil and I are starting to get along. Kind of. Maybe.

Another remake that completely misses the point!

(Interesting. ^^ My best friend's brother, who's about your age, has had a crooked jaw until just a year ago. It was a painful procedure, but he said he wanted the taunting to stop. Personally I think his crooked jaw gave him a certain unique charm, but then that's just me.)

Awwwww, that's too bad! I know how stuff like that can eat away at a person's confidence, though. :<

Ahhh, I just wish I could categorize one of my stories under "urban fantasy", but that entire market seems saturated with nothing besides werewolf/vampire romances and supernatural detective stories. 8/;;

Well, he's doing better on the confidence front now~

You should and just do your own thing...! I'm not really happy with where the steampunk 'genre' has gone. Most people just see it as fashionable veneer added onto a given story (e.g. the Steampunk Batman! the Steampunk War and Peace! etc.) But that shouldn't stop you from taking up the genre name and making it into something better.

Hahahah, true, true. I do feel like the "steampunk" thing is also a little out to milk the audience--but man, aren't you just the best example of turning it into your whole own thing!

...Though, as I've been working on drafting up a detail of the world, I'm realizing that this feels an awful lot more like a somewhat sci-fi/distopic future world... 8T;;

Trying toooo. working on comics has taught me why all the *good* comics usually have an artist and writer working together ._.;

Hehe. I've read a few How To's on sci-fi writing and the key is to simply focus on the core narrative of your characters/conflict. The sci-fi elements can be minor details that spice things up now and then. (I'm not sure how a professional publisher would market it though. I suppose if it's fantasy set slightly in the future, then it'd still be fantasy.)

Auuuuuuuuuugh, I, I, I don't wanna believe in that whole thing with artists/writers needing to be separate...
...On the other hand, they do produce some of the greatest stuff, and I just recently realized that Iris would probably be best told as a graphic novel and I KNOW that I'm nowhere near good enough to probably ever compete with some other comic artists... which is depressing, and yet, a-and yet-!!! ;-;

(I'm just so stubbornly proud sometimes, sigh, I, I wanna be able to do this all on my own... )

I *was* saying that artists & writers can work REALLY well as a team, which is why they're kicking my butt (both in quality and meeting their deadlines). I tried collab-ing with a professional writer all this year, but she never got things going with the writing (too much "actual" work getting in the way.) 6v6;
I think we just need to endure those freshman/sophomore licks, but still get our work out there. I've found almost nobody complains about the low quality of my early pages, so the audience can sympathize.

(Me toooo~ I semi-joked last night to some buddies that I ONLY read/support comics done by indy artists who write their own material. XD XD)

Well, man, I'm sure that you can do just fine!!
And hey, what about a lot of manga, right? MOST manga are all written and drawn by the same person, and some of those are just bloody freakin' genius~ *-*

That's true ~ Japan just has a whole different attitude about what makes for a good story.

(that said I need to fall back on my circle of friends often for advice/feedback) I guess they deserve a Thank You page.. XD

Yeah, and many of those manga are absolutely BRILLIANT in terms of story! ...I wonder if the "percentage" is still fairly true, though. owo;; Now that I think about it, some of the manga I read I read more for art or story than both... but, no, a lot of them I really love for BOTH, and never really thought about it before! HM! I'll have to check my collection again. D8

As far as balance goes, I mostly just try to do my thing and hope it works. XD

It's really all about smart/aggressive marketing anyway. *cough*
