A recent remake of my first ever magic circle, the Lambda Configuration. I'll probably upload that one later on. But anyway...
The Lambda Configuration is something closely connected and prevalent in the setting of a pet project that I've been working on the past year or so (see my website for details).
It's a world of magic (obviously), where great civilizations once ruled and achieved incredible techno-magical heights, far beyond the people of today. Some 3000 years ago, however, these civilizations all vanished. New civilizations rose up in their wake. And these new civilizations eventually discovered relics, artifacts left behind by the old civilizations.
For the group of nations populating the Alhazred Region, the Five Powers, nearly all the relics they discover are branded by this mysterious configuration. Despite all experimentation, even with the backing of their governments, no mage has ever successfully activated this circle. Its purpose remaining unknown, what little the mages of today understand about it has been used to give it a name.
The outer ring bears inscriptions matching an ancient dead language known as 'Glossa' (Greek). While nobody actually knows how to read it, they have nevertheless labeled the letters in its alphabet. And based on these labels emerged the name: Lambda - from the central pylon of the configuration, which resembles a stylized lower-case lambda.
The Lambda Configuration continues to be an almost complete mystery to the nations of the Alhazred Region.
