After meeting one of the champions of Issoh, the one and only Esu , they agreed to battle to help Yoshi with his... condition.
Kate felt confident being in the presence of a skilled trainer who's purified several of their own pokemon. And her partner was excited for the battle. Maybe a little too excited. Because it didn't take long before the opponent started to infuriate him when he wasn't able to knock it down as easily as others. And he refused to lose. He had to prove he was strong, that Kate could depend on him to keep her safe if time called for it. He couldn't lose and allow the two of them to look weak in the eyes of this strong trainer. He just couldn't!
And so, he lost control as he entered hypermode and the shadow virus consumed his mind and actions.

But Kate wasn't about to let him go to far. Luckily for her however, Esu was there to stop her from repeating her mistake of rushing in and get hurt. And at a safe distance, after several tries that felt hopeless and as if landing on deaf ears, her voice finally reached the furious bug and Yoshi was able to snap out of it just in time.

Only one question remained: Who'd claim victory?
