Well, I was supposed to finish this like... two weeks ago, but school didn't let me to -_- And then, when I finally finished it, there was no Internet at my house. And I felt like dying, but well, school's internet is useful now xDI was in the middle of a class when I first saw this scene. And I died, seriously I died. I was literally having a convulsion while the teacher was explaining something -that I don't remember XD-, trying so hard to keep quiet, and all my friends were like: "Wtf? Are you okay?" And well, when I showed them this image... *sigh* They didn't understand my suffering

I think Mashima does this because it's fun to keep giving 'hints' here and there on what couples he wants to pair up. IMO, it is more fun than just have them be 'established'. The only 'established' FT pairing, as of now, is Alzac and Bisca, whom was paired to provide a family element in the guild.
And honestly, I think we should be grateful that Mashima least is giving strong hints these pairings will happen. After all, it could be far worse... He could do what Kishimoto has done in Naruto regarding pairings. Not giving a damn, like what he did after Hinata's confession and have Naruto not bothering to confirm one way or another his feelings regarding Hinata in return.

I love Mashima for what he does, he does not make a love story from his after all shounen manga but he gives a nod to his fans with these little pairing teasings. No matter who you pair in FT you won't be dissapointed by the official statements. ^^
