Description The g in Lyngen is softened roughly into y from the English "yes".
The name of the mountain range is pronounced roughly as "lynn-yen".

We stopped for last at the far end of the fjord, to enjoy the scenery from there. While Isfjord has this epic and somewhat dark air about it, enclosed by those incredible mountains on all sides, on the other side of the thin isthmus that feebly connects the Northern and Southern parts of Lyngsfjella, the air is completely different. That eastern side has a very different atmosphere and feeling, and further east the far mountains of the mainland contribute, because they look nothing like the Lyngen. It feels.... warmer and a bit less arctic somehow, and that already seeps through into the isthmus as well.

View from the coast of Kjosen (Isfjord) at its very end, west along the fjord stretch.
Kjosen or Isfjord as we call it, is a branch of Ullsfjorden, between the two parts of Lyngen.

On the left are the mountains of The Southern Lyngsfjella (The Southern Lyngen Alps).
The huge steep slope in the front is the mountainside of Rørnestinden (1 041 m).
The mountain peering from behind it is Rødbergtinden (1 320 m), Rørnesfjellet is hidden.
Further behind are Store (1 477 m) and Litle Fornestinden (1 050 m) and the glacier between.
Even the ascend of Durmålsfjellet, called Durmålsaksla, is still visible on the horizon.
On the right are the mountains of The Northern Lyngsfjella (The Northern Lyngen Alps).
This massive cliffy mountain is Tytebærtinden (1 177 m), the peak is the one farther away.
The nearer peak that appears triangular and protrudes from the slope is Urdtinden (1 180 m).
Down from it there is a small glacier and a huge landslide downslope, called Storurda.
The nearer slope is the feet of the central part of Kjostindane mountain.

06.10.2018, The Lyngen Alps.
