Description Ultra Fractal

This is my favorite again: Phoenix Julia from the Standard Folder

When I was starting this fractal, I saw a likeness to my favorite Japanese painting:
The Great Wave at Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai and tried to bring it out as much as possible...within reason, of course.

Full view is recommended for the details.

This was my entry for the One Fractal Summer contest 2006. It took third place.

This is awesome.
The fine details, the colors that so imitate ocean waves...
The shape flows so nicely as to be perfectly imagined as a true wave.
Good luck Kat...

I love the 3d wave effect in this... one of the trickier things to do in uf are 3d effects and you use it great here. I love the different blues.. the use of teal and white give it a great mood, well blended and smooth, and the touches of mauve give the whole thing a dreamy, ethereal effect.

definately one of my favs.

Hello, this is beautiful! What are fractals? I never draw anything like faces with my mouse, because my mouse doesn't give me enough control to do that. Designs would be neat to do.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LaPurr In reply to sinnaminsun [2006-06-30 18:06:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... Fractals are computer generated images, usually in endless repeated patterns, based on mathmatical formulas. That's the official definition, but in reality, there are more types now. Do a browse in Digital Art/Fractal Art and take a look at all the variations.

There are quite a few freeware programs out there these days, so it will cost time, but not money, to learn to make fractals. People are using Apophysis, Fractal Explorer, Mind Boggling Fractals, Chaoscope...lots more. I use a program called Ultra Fractal. It's not free, but I love this program more than the others for the control.

If you go browsing, look at the artist's description, as they often say which program was used to create the image. If you keep seeing images you like that were created with the same program, that might be the one for you to try...if you're interested. If you want to make these kinds of images, I really suggest reading a few tutorials to figure out what the heck is going on with the program you choose. Otherwise, you're just pushing buttons and don't have any idea of what's really going on.

Sorry for the very long answer. I just wanted to give you an idea of what these images involve. Give it a shot...like I said, most of the programs are free, so there's nothing to lose but time.

Thanks for the comment, too. I appreciate the look.

I keep thinking about these comments you left for me:

>>a mermaid/man riding on a sea horse<<
>> it looks like they are charging to battle<<

I just wanted to say how much I like the images I get in my mind when I think about these remarks. I come back and look at the image and think about the idea of mermen charging into battle, sitting on their trained seahorses and riding on the crest of a huge wave. This is very cool. Thank you so much for this great comment!

When you're submitting and the screen offers options on the category, one option is contest. After that, there are subcategories on which contest. Go for it!
