Description
This may not be a very usable theme compared to my other ones. I would say that it's more of an experimental theme from my side. It's not a theme for those with darkened vision.I've always wanted to create a dark theme like this, but many of my attempts so far have failed. I tried something different in this one.

The style is great. There are some problems though. For example my msn messenger looks like total crap with this theme. Take a look [link] Do you know any kind of solution for it?
Also opera 9 looks pretty bad with the theme. I downloaded a skin to make it dark, but it still doesn't look that good. Do you use some skin for opera?
Thanks.

Thanks. Certain application skins rarely have anything to do with the theme. That messenger looks like it's creating a gradient of 2 syscolors that I've added in Stylebuilder. But changing that will probably mess up other colors. But I think that msn can be styled too, with different skins. But I don't use that messenger, so I don't know. (Miranda IM ftw!) As for Opera, use a native skin. I recommend Fresh Native.

I can't seem to get it to work... can you give a quite rundown on how to install this? I've never really worked with themes in windows before and I'm kind of lost...

Ser ju riktigt stabilt ut.
I'm a bigger fan of lighter minimalistic styles like my own . But still your's are really nicely done.

One of the best themes I ever used. I registered with deviant to leave this feedback.
Couple of things I noticed and would appreciate if addressed in the next update:
1. Its hard to see the text in input forms where the font color is locked to black. Examples would be entering your email address on hotmail website, and searching for a video youtube website.
2. I copied the Lakrits.msstyles file in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes. When I open Display Properties\themes window, this theme does not show up in the drop down.
Would appreciate if these issues were fixed. Thanks.

Thank you.
1. Input forms on websites are often controled by the website's CSS. It can be changed with user CSS files if you use a modern browser like Opera or Firefox (with the Stylish extention). For advanced users. I didn't have much usability in mind when I created this theme.
2. Not sure about this one, but the reason why it won't display is because I haven't included any shellstyle.dll file. There are plenty of shellstyles from other themes availble. (See if you can find one from another dark theme.) Place it in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Lakrits\Shell\.

I really love this visual style because I do have a rather bright lcd monitor, however there are at least two things that makes this less usable for me (otherwise it would've been perfect):
1) When I load Microsoft Word everything seems to be inverted color-wise. Texts are white, paper is gray and the icons on the menu have weird colours on them. It feels awkward to use it.
2) In Youtube, the combination of the gray search bar and black texts make it a bit harder for me to read what I insert there. I would've liked it if the texts could be inverted to a lighter colour like when I type in Google search.
Personally I prefer this over SlanXP 2.0 because the latter still has some very bright areas for me. Overall I thought this visual definitely deserved to be among the Daily Deviations.

Tahnk you.
Some colors are application controlled, or controlled with a website's CSS. There's not much that can be done about it, except for websites. If you know CSS and use a modern browser like Opera and Firefox (with the Stylish extention) you can almost make a website to look however you want.

Thanks.
I'm aware that this font isn't any good unless you use a west european language. But you can select Tahoma if you select the LargeFont option in Display Properties.
