Right now I am thinking of two possible stories for this concept.
Story#1: When a Mercenary went to town he fell in love with a woman there and married her. Unfortunately she did not feel the same way and was unfaithful to him. When he caught her in the act he killed her lover, chased her out into the snow, and shot her dead. However the sheriff heard the gunfire and went to investigate; he arrived to witness the Mercenary standing over his wife's body. He and the Mercenary will get in a shoot-out, which the mercenary will win. However killing three people is a crime punishable by hanging, so the Mercenary is forced to leave town once more.
Story #2: A Mercenary goes to a town to visit his brother, the town's sheriff. While they are there some women in the town are found tortured and murdered by an unknown assailant, and neighboring towns report similar things. The Mercenary, who is an expert tracker, offers to help his Sheriff brother catch the murderer. After the clues lead them to a mountain trail, the brothers ride along until they see a bloodied corpse by the side of the road. They ride up to it, and see that it is the murderer's latest victim. The brothers are hot on the murderer's trail. Eventually they will reach the murderer's cabin, arrest him, and take him back where he gets hanged for 63 counts of rape and murder. Shockingly, the murderer was a man well-respected in the town whom nobody would have suspected of such terrible deeds.

I think this could be a fantasy interpretation of a sad real world phenomenon. The man is a player, going from one girl to the next like a predator leaving trails of broken hearts like dead bodies in his wake.....

Oh goodness o: I'd guess that woman was some kind of demon or evil sort of being..? This is a really neat piece all the same.

My story behind the concept?
This may or may not sound that good but I was thinking that perhaps the young girl was probably turned into a beautiful doe. The one holding the gun could have shot her by complete accident without realizing her true form. Upon the bullet plummeting through her chest, her true form was revealed, dyed crimson in the white blanket.

The first thing that came to my mind about this illustration was Red Dead Redemption, a video game by Rockstar. In the game prostitutes often get attacked and you can choose to help them out or let them be killed by their attackers. So I instantly thought up a scenario where these two were out looking for a missing woman. They found her, but they still have to find her killer.
